What stupid shit has Trump done today?

Didn't Obama already kick-off a dramatic increase in nuclear spending?
Increased, yes. Dramatically, no. Annual spending was increased (eventually something like around 10% above that of the Bush administration) to renew the ageing warheads, extend their lifetimes threefold and to rebuild/refurbish the infrastructure that maintains them. It was not to increase the arsenal size which is limited to around 1500 deployed each (US, Russia) by New START anyway, with about 4000 each additional in stockpiles (both active and inactive warheads counted), not available for immediate use.

Trump Threatens NBC Over Nuclear Weapons Report

President Trump threatened on Wednesday to use the federal government’s power to license television airwaves to target NBC in response to a report by the network’s news division that he contemplated a dramatic increase in the nation’s nuclear arsenal.

In a story aired and posted online Wednesday morning, NBC reported that Mr. Trump said during a meeting in July that he wanted what amounted to a nearly tenfold increase in the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile, stunning some members of his national security team. It was after this meeting that Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson reportedly said Mr. Trump was a “moron.”

Mr. Trump objected to the report in two messages on Twitter later Wednesday and threatened to use the authority of the federal government to retaliate.

Trump's continuing to call for revoking news network licenses, this is a real quote from Wednesday but it sounds a lot more like something The Onion would come up with.

"It’s frankly disgusting the way the press is able to write whatever they want to write," Trump said. "And people should look into it."

The non stop blizzard of ignorant aggressive tosh is merely Wizard of OZ style distraction. He is completely in thrall to Wilde : "There is only one thing worse than being talked about...." - "Ratings well down" being his most "considered" put down..
Anyway, know this thread is about Trump but can I draw attention to Shep Smith on Fox? Even his fav TV channel is growing a "Resistance Movement"...

Some of the more recent calling him to account clips have been removed, the chaos spirals

Only anecdotal so interested to see if people here do or don't concur.

As I trawl through analysis of the reign of Trump (liberal and left) I notice there has been a significant drop off in recent months of his supporters coming along to more-or-less troll. Are some of them losing enthusiasm, starting to set up some distance? Even the hard core rightists (not just because Bannon was booted). His lack of credibility may cause them to not want their politics associated. If he can be blamed as "part of" or a "victim" of the system they might be able to still present their rancid perspectives as "alternative"?

paper towels. but not too many...

Not to cut Trump any slack at all, but the problems in Puerto Rico that led to this disaster there almost all date from before he took office. If he was genuinely serious about helping the island, he'd bin off the Jones Act, sack almost every local politician and then rebuild it.

Cut back on roubles for the troll farms?

But he's not, so he won't.

There are still five FEMA centres working full capacity in TX since three weeks before Maria struck. Clearly they're still needed, but somehow Trump insists PR should have got its shit together by now, when hit was far worse and more recently?

I'm not sure him removing the USA's backing makes any real difference. The WHOLE WORLD understands that they are under the control of a fucking moron and are largely irrelevant when it comes to contracts and agreements. Really speaking, the USA is now the world's greatest threat to peace and should have sanctions imposed upon it.

A temporary suspension of the Jones Act was put in place, one ship carrying aid docked before it was put back in place.

I think they lifted the Jones act for a whole 48 hrs before they slapped it back on.

The Jone's act was a problem long before this hurricane. It's been a stone around the neck of Puerto Rico for years.

Thanks to the law, the price of goods from the United States mainland is at least double that in neighboring islands, including the United States Virgin Islands, which are not covered by the Jones Act. Moreover, the cost of living in Puerto Rico is 13 percent higher than in 325 urban areas elsewhere in the United States, even though per capita income in Puerto Rico is about $18,000, close to half that of Mississippi, the poorest of all 50 states.

This is a shakedown, a mob protection racket, with Puerto Rico a captive market. The island is the fifth-largest market in the world for American products, and there are more Walmarts and Walgreens per square mile in Puerto Rico than anywhere else on the planet.

As for Puerto Rico's debt, there is this:

A 2012 report by two University of Puerto Rico economists found that the Jones Act caused a $17 billion loss to the island’s economy from 1990 through 2010. Other studies have estimated the Jones Act’s damage to Puerto Rico, Hawaii and Alaska to be $2.8 billion to $9.8 billion per year. According to all these reports, if the Jones Act did not exist, then neither would the public debt of Puerto Rico.
