What coffee are you drinking just now?

GG - when do you drink coffee?
Saturday and Sunday.
That's why I go the extra mile.
My bread is set to be ready at 8AM, so at 7.55, I get myself organised - boil the kettle and hand-grind 32 grammes of something single estate - usually Guatemalan - while reading something online - . I then go and collect the hot bread ..
It then takes approx 30 seconds in the Aeropress - bread always with crunchy PNB, sometimes with yeast extract (not Marmite)

32 grams? Christ, sounds like alot?

Possibly .. just seems to work for me on a weekend - though I have to get out on my bike later to make me ready for bed ....

I top up the result to about 3/4 of a mug.
I like strong coffee. :)

Actually it was a scoop and a half - so 24 grammes until I ran out of good coffee, (Lavazza needs all the help it can get) so perhaps I'll be back to 24g now that I'm getting into the habit of ordering my coffee by mail ...

I like strong coffee myself, but I've found out that after about 29g (in a cafetiere anyway) my stomach tends to detest me for around half an hour after. Depends on the blend though, some benefit from a few more beans in your cup.

I have the stomach of a horse - even though technically I have "IBS" .. some days it can see me visiting the bathroom several extra times though .. fortunately not often as that would really mess up long cycle rides where I set off shortly afterwards.

Just had a mug of the Maragogype and I'm spinning out a bit - I wish I'd used fewer beans :hmm:
I thought that perhaps two scoops of larger beans might be less weight... perhaps it's because I haven't had really good beans in quite a while.
Seemed to take more effort than usual to grind.

The lightest-looking maragogype roast I've ever had, but so deep and rich. :)

I just had a great coffee purchase experience - I was in Turin for work and decided to get some coffee to take home so went to this place one of the people I was working with advised. I swear it was like a visit to the opticians. The guy gave me spoonfuls of brewed coffee and asked more or less - strong/bitter whatnot till we got to one that I considered perfect. This approach to purchasing seems to be the norm there - its the center of the slow food movement and almost every cafe from the cheapest upward were able to tell you interesting facts about the food and wine they served - and not in the poncey 'jus gathered by virgins at dawn' way.

I'm rediscovering the other espresso machine, and just how bloody beautiful it is. (Whilst the straightforward pump-driven bugger is up North.)

Too tight on the grind this morning, but still a v acceptable brew. Was properly stunning yesterday - first time I'd used it in about 4 months!

E2a: I'm also using the other commercial grinder. Which was last dialed in for filter. Hence the hit and miss grinding ATM!

Its cheapish and not too bad as long as you use heaps of it.
Sounds like a false economy. Anway for me, fairtrade instant. I forgot to get any fresh coffee and thought I had some in the back of the cupboard for emergencies but it's gone. It's hard keeping track when there are other coffee drinking adults in the house.

So it was effectively over-extracted ?

Off topic: is that the Archers?

Of course!

It WAS over extracted. Tbh, I always find this machine a bit tricky to judge, though. It's a boiler with a group head stuck on. And the spring that the lever primes never touches conventional espresso pressures. So, erm, it can benefit from all sorts. And can turn out duff brews from things that should theoretically work.

It certainly wasn't a rank brew - which you might kinda expect from a 1 minute 1floz espresso shot :D But it was veering towards Capital-D Dense, with a dose of bitterness.

E2a: the crema was still light / pale, for example - whilst you'd usually expect dark dark orange brown from an over extraction.

went to this place yesterday

http://www.algcoffee.co.uk/scripts/default.asp on Old Compton Street, I must have walked past it hundreds of times over the years, finally ventured in , bought some Costa Rican blend which was very nice this morning - it is a totally amazeballs coffee place and sells loose tea as well.
One of the best presents me and my other half have ever had was a pack of coffee from there that popped through the letterbox every month for a year. Every blend different and very very good.

Still drinking my way through 2kg of Union roasted Revelation whole bean. Can't seem to get enough of the stuff, it's just so rich with cocoa. Doesn't seem to make my stomach do the conga either when I push it past 29g or so.

tesco italian blend stuff, 2 heaped soup spoons in the cafetiere, just enough water for my 1 pint mug. perfect almost every time.

Absolutely loving a half and half mix of Thai Peaberry and Columbian beans just now. Fruity, earthy and with the Columbian's rich, non acidic body. :)

I'm taking this Brazil Fazenda Cachoeira da Grama Bourbon Pulped Natural into work today. If my mates at work don't appreciate its notes of chocolate, caramel and toffee there's simply no hope for them, frankly. *snorts*
