What coffee are you drinking just now?

The Bolivian has just arrived - the beans have a promising whiff - just a bit more midrange than the default Brazilian - but in comparison the Mexican is almost overpowering even several days after opening.
Sadly a couple of hours too late to try today ...

Typical.
I find a gem of a coffee - Bolivia Las Alasitas - and they run out of it.

... either that or it hasn't found itself onto the horrible new website.

WTAF Hasbean ?

"Speculoos biscuit, cashew nut, milk chocolate"

All I can say is that the fresh beans have plenty going on in the midrange and treble and I would have been ordering more.

I will now be blending it with the Brazil Carmo Estate just to make it last longer ... :(

EDIT :-

A little reading around the site and this might be similar ...

Actually this one sounds promising too :-

Hasbean's new website is proper shit.

Did you get the Peruvian or Bolivian?
Not yet - but I suppose I ought to sooner rather than later - but my "jar ends" are building up and there's still the Mexican typica to get through ... inevitably I would buy both

Washed catura versus natural ... :hmm:

Darn you're MAKING me do it :D

My last order (second class over a weekend) arrived elastic banded together so the post person had to knock ...
But the new packs aren't posting easily even singly.
Perhaps I should disengage the spring on my letter box since I don't live downstairs ...

My Rave Coffee is running low and I made an order with Pebble and Pine.
1kg of Guatemala Finca Bremen Medium Roast and 450g of Tanzania AA Majinja Medium Roast (latter for espressos only).

Quite good value, 1.5kg for £28 (20% discount for first orders).

I have a link for 25% off if anyone wants it.
I've just ordered next month's supply (Union Gaja Mountain), but if the link's still valid in a month I'll happily take you up on it.

Today I pitted my lovely Bolivian caturra with the brassy Mexican typica for a "no prisoner" blend.
I demolished it very efficiently - helped by a freshly made loaf of bread.

I am drinking NESCAFÉ gold blend instant with milk but no sugar. It is quite acceptable as instants go. I recommend it to the house.

I mean it's passable as instants go but it's not a high bar. Used to be my preferred stuff at work. There's only 3 or us in my current office and buy the brew supplies so we have a big cafetiere and the "posh" Aldi ground coffee. It's so much better, even if it's not fancy mail order stuff.

I can't imagine drinking bad coffee or wine - witness my "dire emergency beans" - OK the kit to make it cost a bit 10 years ago, but the beans cost me 55p per day ...
I have half a £3 bottle of Chilean Pinot Noir I couldn't finish (recommended by a random customer in Aldi) ... maybe I'll have a stab at vegan coq au vin - but no amount of letting it breathe will see me spoil my day by drinking any more of it...

MIL brought me back some Dominican coffee. Quite a dark, bitter roast. I've drank it in espresso form in the past, not convinced by it as a filter.

Yeah, if I'm offered "bad coffee" (i.e. not to my tastes and requirements) I'll just pass and have something else.

Depends where I at. Sometimes just wet and warm is appreciated. But please. For the love of god. Use enough coffee, even if it's instant.

Yes - in the absense of high pressure it may need a really good stew ?
I'm not sure that'd help. It's just a roast/blend more suited to espresso I think. I wouldn't be surprised if there's plenty of robusta in there too.

It's not a "bad" coffee. Just not what I want for my v60.

It'll be fine for visitors ;)

The Peruvian just arrived and unusually I ground and brewed a small sample - partly as an experiment to see if it affected my appetite or sleep...

I can't say I'm getting "chocolate digestive biscuit" at this stage, but it has depth, and there's a not unwelcome fruity acidity there that will blend well ..

:hmm:

If anything, this one had more "banana" than the other one that claimed to - soft dried ones ...
In combination with my umami on toast it went down very easily.
Should do some magic in a blend.

Today it was half and half with the Carmo Estate - and a bonus half brew with the Alasitas - and I resisted the last bit of bread as there's enough there for tomorrow's breakfast.

Pretty well any one of these three coffees would go down well with most people either alone or in combination. Both the Bolivian Alasitas and
the Peruvian Agua Azul add moderate acidity and freshness to the solid Brazilian Carmo Estate.
I need to try to use up my jar ends or they'll end up as emergency beans and I'm trying to resist buying more coffee as I already have 2 months' supply ....

Pebble & Pine are legit.

Tanzania AA Majina (400g) - (espresso) not as fruity as I anticipated - tasted more typical of a S. American bean. Will try another African as I am somewhat craving for a fruity as fuck espresso.

Guatemala Finca Bremen (1kg) - (espresso) super sweet and not very acidic. It's a very safe bet and a definite crowd pleaser. Not tried as a Americana as its sooooooooooo nice as a double shot. Clean.

Hasbean asked me to review the Peruvian beans I bought last time so I made a straight brew, and it's solid as a rock - chocolatey with just enough freshness that I'm not motivated to blend it.
I just ordered another bag.

Over recent days I had been freshening up my older beans by adding the funky Mexican typica Las Guererras and the 7 week old beans have been doing a good job.
Sadly no longer available ...

Got bought a ground coffee sampler pack - possibly from Whittards or similar - by a friend last year. Trying this one this week and it’s become a favourite :)

Coffee is a bit like wine for me, I can’t claim to have any great in depth knowledge of the varieties - or that much of an interest in developing one - and doubt I have that sophisticated a palate, but despite that I enjoy the experience of trying different types and have found a few I rather like.

Still prefer the simplicity of my filter coffee machine as it requires minimal faff, and no maintenance bar washing up the jug.

I rather think I'm going to order extra and put it in the fridge.
Freshly-roasted in combo with my umami breakfast, this hits the spot - deffo got a touch of (soft) dried banana about it.
500kcals of freshly baked bread and PNB were inhaled indecently fast ...

I just had a new bag of the Peruvian delivered, but I thought it was time to patronise my local shop again.
The Peruvian is a very nice coffee, but I wonder if its brightness would go well with something a little more "boring" ..
So I've ordered some of my usual from them :-

But also some of this bland Brazillian :D ...

At least this way there may be a happy overlap for when Hasbean inevitably run out of the Peruvian and I have to find a replacement ...

And a new plunger for my Aeropress.
I was so close to ordering a new one today mine is massively scored - but I plan to treat myself when I move house...

Much thanks to Virtual Blue for the Pebble & Pine invite.
There aren't that many coffees the Mrs and I agree on, because we like different things. But the Brazilian Ipanema has been great. Smooth enough for her, interesting enough for me. She also loved the Majinja Tanzanian, but it really wasn't for me.
