What animals/wildlife have you seen today?

no photograph as it was the middle of the bloody night

two foxes in the middle of the road outside the bedroom, on their hind legs having a handbag fight (without handbags) and screaming at each other.

Shouldn't laugh, but we've just had similar - the two of 'em seemed to be arguing right under the bedroom window. In reality they were probably in the "wildwood" [it is very quiet up here at night, and sound travels !]

ION - walked up the garden [with Bella] to put out some wildlife food, only to almost tread on a pheasant, which flew up at me in fright - whilst squawking very loudly. I went one way and Bella the other, it took a bit to coax her to come back indoors ! [and almost as long for my pulse rate to normalise !]

Dog was just out barking at noisy foxes, they are So loud

Was just reading about the different owl noises:
Boo-boo-boo-boo
ree-yow
A rarely-heard repeated ‘hoo, hoo, hoo‘ call uttered only in the breeding season
a plaintive ‘kiew kiew’
a ‘wherrow wherrow’ (reminiscent of a small dog barking)
females ‘kewick’
and males ‘hoohoo’

Owls are great! This does feel like good barn owl territory TBF Romney Marshes area on the south coat. Lots of flat, ditchy fields with barns and old buildings.

I think someone told me once that the only owls in the UK that make what we think of as classic owl twit twoo sounds, are tawny owls.

yeah, usually a pair communicating / marking territory.
so normally quiet up here that the sounds often carry a long way.
mate of mine taught me how to hoot a bit like a tawny owl, so I have been known to hoot back at them.
It doesn't take them long to work out it's that hippy again, just ignore them !
and I only do it a couple of times, anyway. more to confirm that I heard them, iykwim

I was dropping off Mrs SFM at the hairdressers yesterday morning and as I pulled into the kerb, we saw a squirrel on a garden wall clutching an entire bar of chocolate that was almost as big as itself. We surprised it when we pulled up and it dropped the chocolate. Even though its first instinct was to run away, it wasn’t going to give up its lucky find so it jumped to the pavement and dragged the bar along the street and managed to get away through a garden gate. Moved too quickly for Mrs SFM to get a photo.

Hope it was a chocolate bar with nuts in it.
