I get the Leeds Uts fans but which team does the bloke with the red & black flag support?
:D

BBC decided to be honest about the Tymoshenko jail stuff:

Ms Tymoshenko's release was a condition of the EU trade deal that Viktor Vanukovych rejected late last year - starting the protests that led to the current crisis.

In April 2013 the European Court of Human Rights ruled that her pre-trial detention had been "arbitrary and unlawful", though the judges did not rule on the legality of her actual conviction for the 2009 gas deal which was seen as favouring Russia at Ukraine's expense. The court also did not explicitly support her claim that her detention was politically motivated, nor did they accept her allegations of physical maltreatment and medical neglect in prison.

Informative piece here on protest leader Aleksandr Muzychko, who claims that killing Russians , communists and jews is his credo .

http://rt.com/news/ukraine-right-sector-militants-210/

although hes a fat bastard itd be wrong to assume this is just bluster . He travelled to Chechnya in the 90s to support the seperatists there, such was his hatred of Russians . Did a lot of killing there and was decorated by Dudayev. Today hes saying his right sector security units, armed to the teeth now, will summarily execute anyone they see breaking the law.

I suspect that list of targets could get a bit wider before too long,

The fash team
It's a bit 'welcome to the new world order' or something. No-one in the MSM is really being honest about what's been going on here. Thankfully the information is out there - collated in threads such as this (thanks everyone who has contributed) and people are asking questions. Without the internetz though we would be pretty much fed the same old shite and taken it as gospel.

An interview in Der Siegel (sorry, in German) with Marina Weisband of the German Pirate Party on her visit to Maiden.

eta: Weisband is ukrainian by birth and speaks the language fluently. (my emphasis; there's a typo there, it's Spiegel (mirror))

The Main Office of the Ministry of Income in the region has officially announced the appointment of a new Chief of the Chop customs.

It is Serhiy Kharchenko.

Pokhylko Oleksandr Ivanovich has been dismissed from the post of the Chief of the Chop customs in order of transfer to the staff of the Ministry of income and taxes of Ukraine.

From BBC report, 1742 GMT:

"The vote to 'remove Viktor Yanukovych from the post of president of Ukraine' was passed by 328 MPs.

"Such ballots, passed by what is called constitutional majority, are binding and enter into force with immediate effect, the BBC's Ukraine analyst Olexiy Solohubenko reports."

Thing is, I can't see anything in the Constitution that gives this any legal significance - but what the hell, this is politics (the idea of observing the rule of law is just an idea, albeit something necessary for a liberal democracy & for a society aspiring to be socialist).

Sure, Ukraine's Parliament can change the Constit'n, but dismissing a Prez is not a constit'nal matter, is it?

Anyone know the story behind this?
As scary as f.

His name is Ukrainian, & many who identify as ethnic Hungarians live in this part of the 1918-38 Czechoslovakia.

Chop is the very SW corner of Ukraine, a border town with Hungary & Slovakia, & a node for smuggling, so lots of scope for bribery - & upsetting lots of peeps. (There only seems to be a crossing-point with Hungary; the road from Slovakia literally curves round at the border & goes back west, & the road from Ukraine aligned with it just stops 100m from the border - which makes sense . . . for a xenophobic nationalist.)

Additional re the Chop customs boss above:

Like the rest of Trans-Carpathian Ukraine, Csap (as it was then known) was part of Hungary until 1920, when, as a result of the post-WWI Treaty of Trianon, it was included in the newly created Czechoslovakia, where it belonged to Slovakia, not to Subcarpathian Rus. During World War II, under the First Vienna Award, it briefly became Hungarian again. But, after the war, as part of the outcome of the Yalta Conference, it became part of the expanded Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic (now Ukraine), adopting the Ukrainian version of its name, 'Чоп' (usually transliterated as 'Chop' in English).

...According to the Ukrainian national census, Chop had a population in 2001 of 8,919, of whom 40% were Ukrainians, 39.2% ethnic Hungarians and 20.8% Gypsies, Russians, Slovaks, Belarusians, and Jews.

im just remembering there how the Syrian jihadists were continually referred to by the same western media as peaceful protestors when they were machine gunning police in Damascus and elsewhere . When they ignored Al Qaeda for so long, because they were backing them, its hardly surprising theyre doing the same thing with the fascists .

Fuckin nora :(

well theres just been another fuckin Nora moment . Blondie ...despite not even being an elected official..has just made her Queenly pronouncement that Ukraine will be joining the EU in the very near future. I imagine theres a few thousand regional deputies in the south and east of Ukraine who might have a thing or 2 to say about that . Along with the people who elected them .
the majority of Ukranians have voted for no such thing , the vast majority of Ukranians havent even protested. Ukraine is virtually bankrupt and the only thing propping it up are massive sums in Russian aid, totalling billions. That and Russian industries , Russian trade and a third knocked off their gas prices. The EU are skint and neither they nor the IMF have any intention of anywhere near matching the Russian aid. There are very pressing reasons why many in Ukraine dont want that and vote against it .

So basically instead of trying to calm the situation shes just gone and escalated it even further. At a time when theres a power vaccuum, a battle between ruling camps over electoral and constitutional legitimacy . With rival regions going in different directions and fascist and anti fascist militias out on the streets.

what a twat

Yes, and the same with Libya and Kosovo.

I've been around a while but I've never known the media be so breathtakingly distorted and so openly agenda driven as it has been on Ukraine. A few mentions on channel 4 news and one single piece by seamus milne in the gruan and thats about it in terms of the reporting the far rights crucial role at the heart of the confrontation. The graun has pictures of armed, uniformed paramiliataries and describes them as 'protesters'. The comments underneath are full of people pointing out the nature of many of the 'protesters' but its being utterly ignored.
Just astonishing.

A weeping Yulia Tymoshenko lays flowers near Maidan where protesters died. "Glory to #Ukraine, glory to the heroes," she shouts
Dunno if she actually said hashtag Ukraine, one hopes so. What a fucking pantomime.

ffs

thats a fash slogan dating from the 40s btw. She seems to be paying tribute and making sure theyre in her camp . The significance wont be lost on the easterners, no doubt.

Totally agree. You can add Tim Marshall of sky news to the list though, he had a decent section looking at Svaboda earlier.
