Polish nationalists attempt to attack African, Middle Eastern students fleeing Ukraine

Dozens of Polish nationalists gathered on Tuesday evening near the train station in Przemyśl, where refugees from Middle East and Africa fleeing the war in Ukraine are being sheltered, and attempted to attack them. The attackers, linked to the local football team’s ‘’hooligans,’’ approached groups of African and Middle Eastern students, who have just arrived in Poland from cities in Ukraine that have been invaded by the Russians, and harassed them, shouting slogans and anti-immigrant chants.

‘’Around 7 pm, these men started to shout and yell against groups of African and Middle Eastern refugees who were outside the train station,’’ two Polish journalists from the press agency OKO, who first reported the incident, told me. ‘’They yelled at them: ‘Go back to the train station! Go back to your country!’’

Polish Police reacted by chasing some of the nationalists and dispersing the crowd.

Whilst demanding the Ukrainian government step down and the defence forces surrender. Presumably if as speculated Putin wants to put a puppet regime in, he already has those people ready to move in as well. Which will obviously necessitate leaving a significant military presence to defend and all that flows from that...

I still can't quite see what Putin thought was going to happen. Surely he didn't actually think the majority of Ukrainians would just sit back and grumble a bit. Is he poisoned by his own misinformation. One problem with removing anyone close who disagrees with you is this dangerous loss of perspective.

Ukraine has all the problems of post Soviet countries with Oligarchs having to much power and influence . From what I've been reading the Oligarchs aren't pro Putin. But just seeing Ukraine as bastion of "Western" democracy and values against Putin and his oligarchs is simplification imo.

We’re all under the heel of oligarchs. This isn’t really a war about different ideals or culture, little to divide us there. it’s just about old fashioned land and power. Either that or bumsex or something.

And then you threaten them with asset seizures and no one want’s WW3 anyway (apart from him it seems).…

BTW: Russia has already used radiological (polonium) and chemical (Novichok) weapons to murder people on UK soil. Don’t know about biological but it wouldn’t surprise me.

Well true. Dependant on what he actually wants out of all this. Perhaps a pliant eastward looking state, won and maintained with brutality. Judging the economic damage and potential destabilising consequences irrelevant or at least manageable.

If he was assassinated from without it could very likely trigger a disastrous sequence of events. From within is a different matter because you have the reins available to take by your own volition. e.g. Imagine the queen and the cabinet being missiled in their stately homes and the likely escalation.

But (and I feel like I am grandstanding/armchairing) fear can only take him so far. My hope is a negotiated peace. A major military power like Russia will (or I speculate it is likely) have their share of hard-headed pragmatists.

I already use paragraphs. The problem is the overall length of the posts. If I adjust the structure of paragraphs and sentences they will still ultimately suffer from this problem, they will just be different variations on the theme of walls of text. Playing around with various spacing wont actually help, I've tried and most of the alternatives actually end up even worse, they hurt the eyes in different ways.

I make plenty of short posts too but people dont usually associate those with me because of the number of long ones I make.

Anyway this thread has taken a toll on me in the last few days so now you wont have to read any posts of any length from me on this subject for a while.

Stepping back a bit and regrouping probably makes sense thpugh, its just a thread on an alternative social media platform its not like its the end of the world or anything (or maybe it might be and as such, priorites- stuff and fings). The footage of the long Chechen column with their brand spanking new carriers waiting at their rally point on that long straight road through woodlands showed them with metallic/reflective tape on their uniforms. One chap could even be seen going around adding tape to his comrades' kit. Presumably something to do with night visibility?
