Tram overturns in Croydon - several deaths reported [Nov 2016]

Not as yet, that I've seen. It looks like they are still in rescue mode.

I didn't know those trams could turn over.

It is actually overturned or *just* de-railed but in a tunnel ?
Over-turned is a more dramatic term for reporting ... and people trapped could be more to do with their injury rather than a crunched up tram.
Just speculating ... will be interesting to see the RAIB report in due course.

well, that look a mess ... the RAIB report is going to be very interesting !
I was wondering if there was "some exaggerating" in the reporting, but it would seem not. The ohl seems "a bit disrupted", as well.

Shocking, I use that tram to get to IKEA and had no idea they could overturn.
Maybe there was something on the line or fallen leaves covered the points?
I hope most people are ok and the reports of fatalities are untrue :(

Having got that tram many any times i would speculate it was going too fast. The trams bomb through that tunnel, but then slow right up to take the very sharp bend. Looking at how far away from the tracks the tram is i think the driver must have taken the bend at full pelt.

This is awful, i know people die every day but when its your home town it obviously resonates more.

There's a few Croydonites on U75, hope everyone ok..

First tram crash since the 50s. Buses crash all the time. Regardless of this crash I think its still one of the safest ways to travel

Arresting the driver would also mean an interview under caution, not that fault had been determined.

Used to live in the Croydon area (Shirley) when the tram system was being built. Didn't use the trams that often, because we didn't live that close to the route however the few times I did use it I would get on/off at Sandilands and change for the bus or walk if it was a nice day.

From what I remember like you said that section is relatively high speed compared the sections going through the centre of Croydon. I agree it does look like it might have been going too fast.
