Things to look out for in Lidl and Aldi

Got a lovely piece of Epoise in Aldi this morning. Stinks to high heaven so not in Mrs SFM’s good books but, having placed it in an old takeaway container, the aroma is muted so peace has been restored.
You must have a posh Aldi.
All I want is a bottle of Fitou ...

Just wish our lidl wasn't such a trek to get to but well spotted. Been told to get some broccoli but they arent keen on it so why they want it just seems stupid.

I like broccoli but it is N's favourite and after nearly 20 years no lie I am a bit fed up with it.
Me "I'm doing the shopping, what veg do you want?"
N "Broccoli".

Pretty much the only variation from that is in the spring when he wants asparagus occasionally.

I get vegetables for myself mind, I'm going to be getting all sorts while there's a load of stuff on offer.

Lidl aren't doing broccoli cheap by the look of it, but I read that Aldi are if you can get there.

Its going to be cheaper for me going to aldi for the veg but i have to say lidl shops layout is so much smarter than aldi's well our nearest one at least. But do need a few things from the town as well maybe saturday for that though. Just people dad really would understand theres only 3 people here its not a 50 room hotel foodwise.

Yes, when I saw that list, I was wondering how long the shallots last and how many I can buy!
You should never buy too many shallots. That way, you can just give people a small amount, and go "that's shallot!"

An opportunity never to be missed, except according to most of my family, my ex-wife, and anyone who's had shallots at mine more than once.

Morrisons are doing a limited selection of 10p ones if you have a More card, I've put those (carrots, parsnips, swede, sprouts) on my grocery order so I don't have to carry them

Hitting up Lidl for shallots, and Aldi for broccoli and cabbage soon.

Spuds - it depends on what the variety is, I am sure I have mentioned my almost obsessive spud variety fussiness before, but I'd rather pay £2 for a bag of spuds that I know will make excellent roasties (please please let me find some King Edwards) than 8p for a bag of spuds hybridised for a smooth attractive looking skin and long shelf life that might be a bit "meh" (yes, Marfona and Lanorma, I am looking at you). Yes apparently I am a potato snob, but getting your roasties right on Xmas day is one of the most important parts of the meal IMO.

Aldi have started selling almost all their mince vacuum packed. I've only seen this on the cheap stuff in Asda before. Do not like. It manages to change the texture of the meat.
