slight system overdrive
I had Oyster Stout at the Porterhouse (own brew) the other day. It is the weirdest fucking drink on earth.

Chuck Wilson said:Cains IPA is refreshingly good. So is Three River IPA. If you ever get up here to Manchester there are a number of seasonal brews worth having a sniff at .Robinson's Old Tom is as ther advert says 'the cat's whiskers' vert complex dark fruity taste and quite strong,Hyde's Insulation is a chocolaty malt with English fuggles,Marble Chocolate Heavy is exactly that, and tbere are few more about as well.

My Dad has just got into ale. Well Indian Pale Ale to be precise. Now he lies either malty or hoppy ones not entirely sure which but which ever one of those to makes sense.
has anyone got any recomendations? Greene King is already on my list. Can ayone think of any others?
Cheers
Stig said:I'd recommend Tomothy Taylor's landlord, Deuchars IPA (fits the Indian Pale Ale bill) Batemans XXXB, Brakspear organic beer, and when they have it, Oakham JHB.

What's hoppy? That's the lighter one right?
What's malty? That's the heavier one right?
I know, but then I don't know at the same time.

nino_savatte said:Old Tom's rather nice. That's the same Robinson's brewery that makes Hatters Mild - yes?
Chuck Wilson said:Sorry, I missed this yes , based in the heart of the pulsating metropolis that is Stockport. They also do a spot on bitter and Young Tom which is ok. Old Tom is one of those beers they have in a metal barrel and you order it in gills. Half a bitter and a gill of old Tom isn't a bad penultimate drink for the night during the week with this present weather.
I wouldn't fancy a night on the stuff, but it's a lovely beer to have with a meal.Stig said:One or two is fine, but after that you go into banana overload, and have to revert to normal beer.

Tim Taylor's Landlord is our current guest ale at work. Hence the hangovers me and longdoggy *enjoyed* yesterday.
Wonderful stuff. Strangely much more available in Oxford than it was when i lived in Leeds.marty21 said:I was enjoying timothy taylor's landlord at a pre xmas do drink last week
Overhopped I'd say- so dry you need a drink afterwards and I find it quite hard work after the initial pleasant hop kick.Chuck Wilson said:Cains IPA is refreshingly good.
Stig said:Yup, drank loads of it at Cambridge folk festie, as Charles Wells is their sponsor brewer.

editor said:Tried some Charles Wells Banana Bread Beer tonight - and it wasn't 'alf nice!
It hits you a blast of banana flavour at first, and then a kind of dark nutty bitterness followed by a hint of banana sweetness at the finish.
It's not as sweet as it sounds, and has a real 'more-ish' quality about it.
And the bananas are fair trade too. Right on!

Anyone else tried it?
Aye. Lovely stuff.Roadkill said:I got through a few pints of 'Doom Bar' from Sharp's brewery in Cornwall.
Roadkill said:In my mum's local the other night, I got through a few pints of 'Doom Bar' from Sharp's brewery in Cornwall. The landlord said he'd just put it on and it should be good - and it was excellent. Nice and light, and very tasty. Strongly recommended.
