Sadly the choice of ales in Camberwell/Brixton pubs is pretty lame, it would never appear near me. My local does Youngs but it's not kept well enough, have to drink Guinness most of the time.
that is a lovely drink, you can get it on draught as well occasionally

I've been drinking in Brixton/Herne Hill/Tulse Hill mostly of late, will try and convince mates to venture out to Camberwell for a change.Camberwell's pretty good - Hermit's Cave, The Bear, The Pheonix and, further off the beaten track, Hoopers all have a fine selection of ever-changing ales.
Brixton's rubbish, mind
I'm pretty sure you can get Summer Lightning on draught at the Priory Arms in Stockwell (Lansdowne Way, SW8).
I went to the Black Sheep Brewery in Masham last weekend, was a very pleasant day, although I had to have an afternoon nap before the evening session. I was surprised that they didn't do a wider range of ales, but what they did was very pleasent. I had to try them all several times to make sure of course. The food was good as well. The Rigwelter ended up being my favorite, which suprised me as normally I like my bitters a bit weaker. At 5.9% it probably explained the need for the afternoon sleep.
Although it can beat my current favourite, the glorious cocker hoop.
pleasantly surprised to go to the old ship on mare st on the weekend (despite the fact that its been gastroed) and finding 4 ales on tap, including Landlord and London pride (as well as IPA and Bombadier iirc). Nowt out of the ordinary admittedly but good to see such a selection on offer. And the Landlord was very well kept and very tasty as well as being well priced.
Youngs Special - my fav.
I also recommend Spitfire and Bishops Finger.
But if your ever in Brighton there's a real ale lover's dream pub -
Evening Star -
Paste from Brighton tourism site:
Home of the legendary Spiced Vice wheat beer. Con stantly changing beer selection (at least 6 at any one time), all in pristine condition. Also brews its own beer - by Rob Jones of Dark Star fame (beer of the year at the National CAMRA beer festival a few years back).
Yum.
I much prefer lighter, paler ales but have to say that all of the Wychwood ones I've had have been nice despite them being generally a lot darker.
I popped into the Brownswood Park Tavern, corner of Green Lanes/Brownswood Rd, between Finsbury Park and Stoke Newingtonn, a few days ago. The place is transformed, about 8 ales on tap, similar number of ciders .....
I think they bought it about a year ago, used to be just a standard boozer, mostly stella.kronenburg, guinness, strongbow, etc - I once had a nightmare on the stella there, at a work do insulted a colleague who made a complaint etc had to write an apology started drinking ale a lot more after thatA mate lives very close to that pub, it has always struck me as rather unremarkable. Do you know when all the changes took place?
