The Kiss Your Arse Goodbye Thread

What if we were invaded by, say, Norway and they tried to impose greater gender equality, more progressive taxation and a better welfare state? Would you fight back just because it was an invasion?
No.
I'd offer a nice cup of tea and a full English breakfast. but if it were Russia, well, we'd all probably be dead anyway and I would welcome international support. But I'd be also pissed off and sad people sitting at their desks smugly pontificating about how terrible there is any resistance to the murderous invading regime while being bombed and my neighbours are killed.

It was obvvious that Russia was going to invade if Ukraine continued on the path on which the Maidan coup set it. Nonetheless the west still encouraged Ukraine down that path, while knowing this full well. It was a gamble with Ukrainian lives, and Ukraine isn't going to recover for a long time, if ever.
no fault on Russia for starting the war

amazing logic

But most Ukrainians don't want to live under Russian rules. Would you want to live under a regime you hate because it is internationally convenient?
I don't know what I'd do if the alternative was a devastating war and the destruction of the country as we knew it.

Well the last invasion of the mainland UK was 1797. Or 1940 if you want to include the Channel Islands. So, it is slightly less relevant to people alive today than being invaded in 2022.

But if any Vikings want to come and invade, I'd be happy with a bit of Scandinavian social democracy.
Russian autocracy, not so much.
oh yeh mainland uk. between the union of 1707 and the union of 1801 came the french invasion of ireland in 1798. but then we never talk of ireland.

I don't know what I'd do if the alternative was a devastating war and the destruction of the country as we knew it.
I'd have thought you'd be happy in the knowledge that someone will be typing away how it's your country's fault that you are being bombed to shit and that aggressor should be allowed to roll into your country and kill civilians with impunity.

Good.

So you say you don't know what you what do if this scenario happened to you, but are happy to see it happen to other people, for their lives to be ripped apart and not condemn the aggressor in a similar situation. Then moan at others on this board who do condemn this action as their words will have no effect.
But what you are saying will have no effect and what you are saying is hypocritical if you do not accept the same to happen to you and yours and that accepting that invasion will mean your quality of life and freedoms are severely curtailed.

I haven't once said I'm happy about anything.

OK I'll reword it,

Now will you confirm you would accept this happening to your friends and family? Or will you either ignore or argue more semantics?

Whether it was obvious or not isn’t the point.

If Russia hadn't invaded Ukraine, this war wouldn't be happening.

I understand that you're upset about it all. The rest of what you're saying is like noise to me.

So you are ignoring my question? You want other people to answer your questions, but won't answer others?
That is not a discussion then which, I thought you wanted.
Have I been asking questions?

All I've noticed is you asking 'me' irrelevant questions, from an assumed moral high ground, about what 'I' would do in some hypothetical situation.

Philby got a luxury flat in Moscow, a beautiful wife and two bottles of Stoli a day for life. But I reckon Putin can do better.
A couple of times I visted a Soviet factory manager's flat-I knew his son and daughter-in-law. It was spacious, and had massive windows overlooking the Moskva river and the the former Tsarist estate of Kolaminskaya (sp). It wasn't at all bad. If the latterday evil empire could offer me summat like that for my retirement, bring it on.

And a Dacha of course, you've got to have a Dacha.
