the infamous little black dress...

...that every woman is meant to have in their wardrobe :hmm:

Have you got one? What's it like? When do you wear it?

Is it like your back up if you can't work out what to wear?

Ive got one. Mines got a kind of chiffon overlay and swishy skirt and a crossover ruched style bodice

Its kinda a good standby for an evening out yes but usually Id choose it deliberately rather than turn to it because I didnt have anything to wear

No.

I do have a very long black dress though, which I'd completely forgotten about until Halloween, when I realised it would be IDEAL for my witches costume. :hmm: :( :D

I've got a knee length strappy one a bit like the one that Demi Moore wore in that film where she has it off with Robert Redford for a million quid or whatever. It's a useful dress cos you can put a jacket over it if you're out in the day and can't get back home to change.

Got a couple of longer ones which are dressier, one with a swishy skirt and white underskirt.

Yep. :)

Low cut front and back, have to use tit tape to keep them under wraps, but it's a good failsafe. I've also got a wooley net overdress (that sounds horrid but it looks great :D) that I can wear over the top, I just like the dress because it's so versatile, and more importantly FLATTERING :D

More importantly, in that latest N-Dubz song the young lady is 'left standing there in my LBD and my bang-bang shoes'.

Are 'bang-bang' shoes like FMBs?

I think I need one, a black dress that is, strappy and knee length, or just over the knee :hmm:

I have a couple of dresses that are black with patterns on, but no completely black dresses. Could wear any colour shoes with them

I have a very basic plain black dress but I don't actually wear it. I think it would be handy to have such a dress for various occasions, however I've yet to find one that I like that fits the bill.

I have 4 black dresses that spring to mind all of them in a classic style. I have never worn any of them because I couldn't find anything else to wear though.

I want/need one. Can someone post pictures of theirs please, i need ideas.
Also, where did you get yours from?

What HB said ;)

What's a classic style moonsi?

I've been looking at this:

All my dresses are black! Well, almost all of them. I've got a few black jersey dresses/tunics that are great over leggings or jeans in the day. I've also got a proper smart black dress for Xmas parties that was from Per Una two years ago, strapless, prom style dress with gold & black brocade type bias strip round the top of the bodice and a net under the skirt. I think it has removeable spaghetti straps but I've not worn it with them because they make my shoulders/tops of arms look bigger. I also just bought this for going out in the evening http://www.newlook.co.uk/1819179/181917901/ProductDetails.aspx but I could probably get away with it in the day over jeans I think.

yes, i have one. It's a slinky black jersey dress that hugs all the right curves, mid thigh in length, long sleeves belled at the wrist and backless with a big bow where it comes together at the small of the back. Love it.

I have many (none of which could probably described as L, to be fair)
I'm still looking for the perfect long-sleeved one, though.

I have two dresses -big black rather than little. One is jersey knee-length crossover v-front and back from Montage and the other is a bit gothy- black crossover (a friend to the boobish and waist-less) pointy sleeved and hemmed from Fairy Gothmothers in Camden Market.

Both worn for every occasion - goth one over jeans mostly.

top shop years ago and all. Used to rock it with trashy emerald green, heeled ankle boots. That reminds me, must look for those boots when im at my bros again next month n bring them back with me.

I had a LBD when I was in my early thirties, hardly ever wore it (except to after-wedding parties), & gave it to the charity shop.

After my mates who were going to get married got married, it seemed rather inappropriate garb for pub crawls in the less salubrious watering-holes of Clapham & Brixton, which was what my social life consisted of at the time.:D

I have two

My "best" one is from a charity shop in Truro --- floor-length , very simple, made from raw silk jersey.

The other's from some high st chain (bought for a funeral)

Adorable kit!

If you start out the evening in yer LBD and finish it (a) mangled and (b) still wearing drawers, you're not doing it right.

I own a few black dresses but they are all casual summer type things. No formfitting LBD/cocktail type things to speak of. Not like I got anywhere to wear them anyway. I've also stopped buying really dressy clothes because of this as well. No point if they never get worn.
