Wow this is pretty good from George Monbiot on the Rwanda legislation:
Holy sh!t I remember Mrs Zarcone and her husband very well and often visited their chippy, which was just down the road from me.
Tried earlier to find out what the actual deal is with the Rwandan government, what are we paying them .
Let Tom Pursglove MP, Minister of State for Legal Migration and Delivery (since 7 December 2023) explain it all to you:
If ministers were to be defeated at second reading stage it would be the first time a government had lost such a vote since 1986, when dozens of Conservative MPs rebelled to defeat a plan by Margaret Thatcher to end Sunday trading restrictions.
I didn't think they had forced them back onto there. Grim. Not directly Rwanda related, but the BBC is reporting that an asylum seeker has died on the Bibby Stockholm
People returned in October, apparently.I didn't think they had forced them back onto there. Grim.
Hopefully Sunak will lose and be exiled into a painful gulag
There seemed to be a grim probability of that when it was announced. How desperately sad; what a fucked up country. Now reporting that sources have said he took his own life
FTFYPeople returned in October, apparently.
I wonder if today's tragedy will have an impact on the consciences of overpaid privileged psychopaths.
Very much doubt that, given the electorate.I wonder if today's tragedy will have an impact on tonight's vote.
7pmWhat time is the vote? Is it an all day debate session?
That's charitable. Of course they have the numbers: they just don't think they should be accountable.
Frankly, I'm not surprised. You couldn't do more to constructively encourage suicide than what this government is doing, to often already-traumatised individuals. Now reporting that sources have said he took his own life
They will probably show up later for the vote, most likely propping up the Commons bar at the moment. This is just the first of several votes isn't it. Embarassing for Rishi Sevenbins if it fails at this hurdle but still plenty of time for MP's to either kibosh it or append their own favourite hobby horses to it later.Considering how important this debate is supposed to be, there's hardly any MPs in the commons, 3 or 4 dozen at most.
