Well done Aussies

Let’s hope it’s upheld. I grudgingly support this bellend’s right not to get vaccinated but he can fuck right off thinking he can cross borders claiming medical exemptions on account of celebrity status. Unfortunately I suspect he’ll have a doctor onside who’s been enjoying some weighty brown envelopes, but here’s hoping 🙏

He's not the only one to have been granted an exemption. The AO says there's a 'handful'. Possibly pretending to have asthma or something like sharapova.
Yeah, I'm curious as to what they were. And are they definitely exemptions for being non-vaccinated? Obviously there are other reasons for medical exemptions, like, as you say, steroids for asthma or stimulants for ADHD, etc.

Doubt most of those who have a problem with Djokovic's exemption would also have a problem with one of those others.

Tennis star Novak Djokovic had a vaccine exemption to enter Australia due to a recent Covid infection, his lawyers say in court documents.

"The date of the first positive Covid PCR test was recorded on 16 December 2021," they said.

Absolutely suspected that was the case, whether it was genuine or 'manufactured' in some way.

Australia, like the U.K. and US doesn’t accept previous Covid infection in lieu of vaccination.

Which makes it even more weird that the Open does.

My understanding of the theory is that it delays the date when you can legitimately be expected to have the vaccine.

So, in theory, if we believe everything ( :hmm: ;) ), Djokovic could be claiming "aw, man, I intended to get the vaccine so I could play in the tournament, but then I got the dang virus so couldn't get the vaccine in time!".

I think...

It's a shame the vaccine has only been available for the last month :(
Sure, obviously he could have had it earlier, but it's not inconceivable that someone would "finally change their mind", whether that's because they've genuinely been convinced by the science, or purely because their vaccine stance is less of a priority to them than, say, entering a tennis tournament.

I'm not saying I believe him, simply that there's a version of events that could be presented that would not be entirely unbelievable, just out of hand.

Tough shit. If he knew he wanted to enter the Australian Open, then he had plenty of time to get the vaccine more than 4 weeks before it started.

Also, according to Australian immigration rules, you need to be fully vaccinated to enter the country, with the shortest possible period from first jab to being allowed to enter being 3 weeks. Three weeks hadn't passed between the 16th December and when he entered.

Yeah, it is very weird that the Open had different criteria to the country that everyone would have to enter in order to play.

I dunno, it's not like I've really looked into the forensic detail of it all, and have very little sympathy for the man.

In the meantime, Osaka has pulled out of the SF of a warm up event with an injury, but apparently still intends to play in the Open. Fingers crossed she'll be able to make it.

He got infected in 2020 at his superspreader tourney and probably believed he couldn't get infected again or something yet here he is, trying it again and taking everyone for mugs. Eejit.

Kyrigos has tested positive, 7 days before the tournament starts.

Depending on when his first round match is, he might just squeak in..?

Apparently Novak been subjected to "torture" and "harassment" and - most shockingly of all - "there were moments he didn't have his phone with him."

I'm in bits here.

Raducanu out in Sydney, hence sad face.

Murray wins, gets a pensive, wonder what will happen next face.

Swan and Broady through first round of qualifying for Aus Open. Effectively the round of 242. Not very famous, so get photos of famous people instead. :D
