Novak Djokovic: Australia cancels top tennis player's visa
The tennis player is in a government detention hotel and a decision on deportation will come on Monday.www.bbc.co.uk
Oh can you imagine the self important rage. I'd have paid good money to see itThe world number one was held in the city's airport for several hours before border officials announced he had not met entry rules and would be deported.
Yeah, I'm curious as to what they were. And are they definitely exemptions for being non-vaccinated? Obviously there are other reasons for medical exemptions, like, as you say, steroids for asthma or stimulants for ADHD, etc. He's not the only one to have been granted an exemption. The AO says there's a 'handful'. Possibly pretending to have asthma or something like sharapova.
Tennis star Novak Djokovic had a vaccine exemption to enter Australia due to a recent Covid infection, his lawyers say in court documents.
"The date of the first positive Covid PCR test was recorded on 16 December 2021," they said.

Absolutely suspected that was the case, whether it was genuine or 'manufactured' in some way.

Australia, like the U.K. and US doesn’t accept previous Covid infection in lieu of vaccination.
Sure, obviously he could have had it earlier, but it's not inconceivable that someone would "finally change their mind", whether that's because they've genuinely been convinced by the science, or purely because their vaccine stance is less of a priority to them than, say, entering a tennis tournament. It's a shame the vaccine has only been available for the last month
Yeah, it is very weird that the Open had different criteria to the country that everyone would have to enter in order to play.Tough shit. If he knew he wanted to enter the Australian Open, then he had plenty of time to get the vaccine more than 4 weeks before it started.
Also, according to Australian immigration rules, you need to be fully vaccinated to enter the country, with the shortest possible period from first jab to being allowed to enter being 3 weeks. Three weeks hadn't passed between the 16th December and when he entered.
