McEnroe raised the issue of rafa's timewasting at that 2nd set break game, and said he expected Medvedev to say something about it.

I'm still not sure how someone with a physique even worse than my own slightly emaciated frame produces such power. He does look an extra from trainspotting but puts 200mph serves down.

I bloody need to make lunch, you bastards!! :(

(Earlier on I had to stop my TV automatically going into standby mode, the match has been going that long :D )

I don’t mind admitting I shed a little tear. This is one of the most incredible victories in the history of the sport. I can’t believe what I’ve just watched…

I was just thinking, the fact that Nadal, Federer and Djokovic have all been competing at the same time, and for so long, possibly almost diminishes perception of their achievements, because it starts to feel "normal" after that long.

Just as a reminder of their dominance (Wikipedia clearly hasn't yet been updated following Rafa's win a few minutes ago ;) ):

  • They've won 60 of the past 75 (80%) Grand Slam titles (up to the 2021 US Open (Wikipedia clearly hasn't yet been updated since Rafa's win a few minutes ago ;) ).
  • That's almost 19 years, back to 2003!
  • Pete Samprass is the closest to them, with 14 Slams, only 70% of the other three.
I mean, fookin' 'ell...

Incredible, for sure. Given their dominance it's surprising that none of them have managed to win all 4 slams in a calendar year. Djoko obviously came close last year, and has also held all 4 titles at the same time over 2 years, but it shows how hard winning all 4 in the same year is.

Pretty amazing that Nadal's first and only Aussie Open win before today was 13 years ago
