The Cranberries are a Top50 band in History

The English are Germans, the Irish are Celts. Your mentalities are different
BTW
Anglo Saxons, which i presume you are thinking of re "German", were from Denmark, DNA now mainly found in Yorkshire

Anglo Saxon DNA is only a few percentage points less in Ireland

"Celtic" DNA is a massive mix of eastern european and middle eastern

The whole thing is a massive mix up

I was up to around 50,000 bands better than the Cranberries and gave up
This band will always be in the hearts of millions of people, it is the only band with origins in dreampop that managed to become big in the 90's. At a time when bands like Cocteau Twins, Galaxie 500, Slowdive or The Sundays never arrived to the public around the world.

As a child of the 90s (I was born in 1991), The Cranberries have always been present in my life. I remember songs from the band in many moments of my childhood, as Dolores said one day "our music can appeal to both an old rocker and a 5-year-old boy".

If you need to destroy Dolores, The Cranberries and their world-renowned legacy, it just shows that you are envious. You are envious that there are people who love music that you don't, I imagine this is because the band you love has barely left a recognizable legacy.

I let you know that after 32 years of its founding and more than 20 of its last commercial success, the band is still very present in the lives of people who love their music, and in the collective imagination of Europe (perhaps the UK is an exception ), Latin America, the US (from 1995 to 1996 it is the largest band in that country) and many areas of Asia.

They, with their music, have transcended and have reached 3 different generations. And they will continue to reach future generations.

Let me make it crystal clear for you: I don't give a shit about the Cranberries, Dolores or their supposed legacy.

However, I am absolutely free to express my opinion about the band, and as far as I'm concerned, they're a mainly forgotten, very average band who haven't aged too well since their short period of success decades ago.

I work as a DJ playing loads of indie and not once in all the 20 years I've been DJing has anyone, ever asked for a song by the Cranberries. So now you know. No need to comment further!

I don't give a shit about your work. Getting old doesn't mean that in a shitty nightclub they ask you for a band or they ask you for Despacito or Echo And The Bunnymen. Do not get confused. Aging well means that after several years of your prime, their music will continue to be heard and it will continue to be important to those who like it. You are making it clear that you are disrespectful, you think that by being 40 years old or being the censor or having 21 years in this shitty forum, you can piss on others.

Has anyone seen the Travis documentary about the guy who says he hates them and so they invited him on tour.

This thread reminds me of that.

It had a happy ending though.

I have often DJd alongside someone who chooses to play the Cranberries out...and still does....and she gets paid a lot more money for it than I get for my efforts....

I'm leaning towards siding with the idea that the Cranberries are one of the 50 greatest bands in history. It's a silly idea, but the idea that there's a sacred rock iconography to shield against dilution by Cranberry blandness is an even silly idea. Beatles, Bowie, Zeppelin, Cranberries,... . I'm liking it.

On a similar note I've come to the conclusion that the demonisation of Cold Play blandness is particularly ridiculous. Their song writing was kinda brilliant, better than Radiohead's.

In fact there is no list of 50 or 100 best bands, it is totally subjective and only the sales data has a certain degree of objectivity, because it can be measured.

The Cranberries were a band with a sound that combined Irish folk rock and dreampop, with certain influences from The Cure, The Smiths, Joy Division, Echo And The Bunnymen and other post-punk bands. But like I said, the debut album is mostly dreampop with some classic rock songs like How and other shoegaze songs like Pretty or I Still Do.

My point to give an intrinsic value to the band, apart from my biased vision, is that it is the only band with this kind of sound and origins that has become huge in the world, selling 50 million units (15 in US), at a time when English bands like Pulp, Suede, Oasis and Blur failed miserably in that market.

I sincerely believe that this band had something very special apart from its vocalist, and it was the fact of having a fully identifiable sound thanks to the folk component of their melodies, which can be seen in Dreams, Cordell or Sunday, among others.

Discussing whether or not it is a Top50 or Top100 does not really have impotence, the serious thing is that there are people who still do not value and respect such an influential and important band, which has left an indelible mark on history, and will continue to gain followers over the years.

Because they are and will be a fundamental band of their time, the 90s

Feel free to leave this 'shitty' forum any time you like, and inflict your excruciatingly uncritical one-way gushing somewhere else. You really won't be missed.
