The all boxing thread

Campbell's jab a very useful tool. Loma loves the old "cover opponent's vision then spin left" but that isn't going to work against a fellow southpaw.

That was a really good fight. Loma at the end saying to Campbell "You're good...you're good". And he was. But Lomachenko was better, even though he was fighting someone pretty much perfectly designed to give him an awkward evening.

Huge props to both fighters.

One of the many things I love about Loma is that if he gets caught he doesn't shake his head or gurn or smile, he just nods as though to say "fair fucks mate, that was a good one".

Post-fight reaction:

4 June 2019:

In a further twist, WBN (World Boxing News) has been informed Joshua suffered a ‘secondary concussion’ (in sparring) and maybe should have thought twice about fighting on June 1 ...

Source: Joey Dawejko: Charles Martin victim who KO'd Anthony Joshua in sparring

Anthony Joshua's trainer, Robert McCracken, now states that Joshua sustained concussion in Round 3 of his loss:

Dazed and confused: Robert McCracken, Anthony Joshua and concussion

Having realised the potential implications of his comments, McCracken has now 'clarified' his comments:

The Anthony Joshua Defeat Conspiracy Theories: No smoke without fire?

I read that about Joshua's trainer, it certainly seems damning that he knew Joshua was concussed and yet let him continue, despite his odd questions in between the rounds.

Arguably Joshua and his team didn't take their opponent seriously - there was comment that Ruiz didn't have time to prepare but equally neither did Joshua or at least it seems he didn't prepare adequately and was taken by surprise.

Makes me wonder about the rematch, I suppose they can't have the excuse of not being prepared.

A friend of mine from when I was a boxer, he turned over and is a decent pro welterweight. His dad is his coach, used to be my coach too. Louis is 10-1 (5) going into tonight. It was his first fight abroad, he was in Poland and had an undefeated opponent with a 18-0 record. Obviously, he was up against it. Also obviously, I was on edge too, always will when one of my pro mates have a fight. Hence this post maybe not being too coherent. :D

Anyway, Louis Greene was the underdog... He went to Poland and.. Knocked his opponent out in the second round. I am fucking buzzing. Here a couple photos from it.

The Late Patrick Day: Rest in Peace

I would think that's Price finished now. Nice guy and all that but being nice is maybe not the best quality to have in the boxing ring. Impressive from Del Boy, I hope it's earned him anither title shot.

Any predictions for tonight, fight fans?

AJ will be well trained and primed for this - it's a win or bust situation for him.

Ruiz is now over 20 stone- very flabby with it. I don't know of that will be a help or hindrance. He's the second heaviest fighter to contest a belt - the first being that 7 foot russian giant a few years back.

I really hope AJ wins. He's a boxer you can really get behind

I predict I'm going to need someone to PM me a stream link :D

I reckon if Joshua makes it boring - jab to a points win - he can win it. But I think Ruiz is perfectly suited to cause him problems. I reckon it's about even.

Ditto also re stream

Though I expect / hope like last time the whole fight will be available a day or so later.

was on the bet365 site to place a bet on ruiz. But while watching the ring walk, noticed ruiz's body language. he didn't look interested and looked bored. decided against a bet. clearly happy with the massive set for life pay cheque these two fights have got him and has no desire to do anything more.

A sombre reminder of the dangers:

Death of a fighter: Patrick Day loved boxing, but it killed him

I don't care if this thread is a slow burner or a non starter, but I've seen some great fights off of the world boxing video archive. You won't get digital quality but what you will get is a chance to see some great action.
I just saw Ray mercer vs Tommy morrison, what a fight. Mercer loses 3 rounds and takes some vicious shots in the bargain, but comes back in the forth to rock and stop his man.
Can anyone tell me of any fights I should be thinking of downloading. Has anyone seen the hasim rahman v james toney fight, which happened last saturday. A few boys on eastside are calling it a robbery.
For those who saw it, questions 1) did rahman get hookwinked, Q2) was it as bad as lewis v holyfield I.
Just a reminder, this thread is for all those interested in boxing.
Ward V Ortez.

The second Ruiz V Joshua fight is the worst title fight I have ever seen. Joshua's performance took professional boxing and the Heavyweight division to a new low.

It is befitting that I leave the game just like I came in, beating a big bad monster who knocks out everybody and noone can whup him. That's when little Cassius Clay from Louisville, Kentucky, came up to stop Sonny Liston. The man who annihilated Floyd Patterson twice. HE WAS GONNA KILL ME! But he hit harder than George. His reach is longer than George's. He's a better boxer than George. And I'm better now than I was when you saw that 22-years old, undeveloped kid running from Sonny Liston. I'm experienced now, professional. Jaws been broke, been knocked down a couple of times, I'm bad! I been chopping trees, I done something new for this fight. I done wrassled with an alligator! That's right. I have wrassled with an alligator, I done tussled with a whale, I done handcuffed lightning, thrown thunder in jail. That's bad! Only last week I murdered a rock, injured a stone, hospitalised a brick... I'm so mean I make medicine sick!

Bad! Fast! Fast! Fast! Last night I cut the light off in the bedroom, hit the switch and was in the bed before the room was dark. And you George Foreman, all you chumps are going to bow when I whup him. All of ya. I know you got him. I know you got him picked, but the man's in trouble.

I'm going to show you how great I am.
