Terrorist attack NZ, 50 dead, many injured

I dunno, is there a ranking for these things? Did they have a silence when that guy shot up a black church in the states, or when car bombs have taken out a couple of hundred civilians in a Baghdad market? Genuinely curious as to what is worthy of attention and what isn’t - I guess it’s down to how unusual the event is, and English-speaking or European countries rank higher simply because it’s easier to report from them.

I suspect it's nothing to do with ease of reporting. And more the sad fact that many people are less empathetic/sympathetic to those whom they've been made to see as different. It's the same mindset that governments have exploited when using mass immigration to undermine the solidarity upon which the welfare state was built, as an excuse to cut it back. Which is why workers need to unite and organise on class (rather than e.g. racial) lines.

an Ar15 is pretty useless for hunting especially pig bashing (feral pigs breed at an insane rate) Yanks use IEDs and hunt them from helicopters! complete with the ride of the Valkyries:rolleyes:.
They use semi-automatics a lot but its not beyond the wit of man to make acquiring one if you need one for pest control legal while denying anything more than a .22 for target shooting.

most of the murderous mayhem in the states is done with handguns
ar15's are just the high profile icing on the mountain of corpses.
not that letting an unstable teenager having an ar15 is a good idea just that focusing on one sort of rifle because its well known misses the point Some people shouldn't have access to any sort of firearm and people who do should lock the wretched things up and not be allowed to sell them on Craigs list no questions asked:facepalm:.

Irish radio has just said that the perpetrator has dismissed his lawyer and will represent himself.

My guess: he will try to turn the trial into a propaganda opportunity. Will the authorities let him?

Presumably, the judge rather than the authorities will rule as to what is admissible and what isn't.

indeed.
one tactic of the NRA here is to scream that any attempt to rein in any gun is an all-out attempt to rein in all guns.

I'd actually be fine with an attempt to rein in all guns. Show me someone who wants a gun, I'll show you someone who probably shouldn't have one.

New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has vowed never to say the name of the Christchurch mosque gunman.

"He sought many things from his act of terror, but one was notoriety - that is why you will never hear me mention his name," Ms Ardern said in an emotional address at New Zealand's parliament.

She said: "I implore you, speak the names of those who were lost rather than the name of the man who took them. He is a terrorist. He is a criminal. He is an extremist. But he will, when I speak, be nameless."

Nice sentiment.

There's a lot of questions about who the cops were focusing on. My mate Asher gets a mention here, he went to identify neo-nazis at the police station and they were more interested in him identifying activists opposing a motorwaying project.

hah hah, he would have been identifying me as a motorway extension protestors. Wow, never knew I was in the sights of the security services.

Fun fact: some people in Sweden who have downloaded the terrorist's manifesto and video claim that inconspicuous white vans now park outside their windows.

He's a Breivik copycat with whom he reckons he has had "brief contact". If that's true and he has genuinely been in any kind of contact with Breivik it adds to the shame of the farce that was and is the Breivik trial and incarceration. Hopefully New Zealand won't allow him to turn his trial into the propaganda circus we saw in Norway.

Sounds like bollocks, though. Breivik's lawyer reckons it's bollocks.

If it's not it's an enormous fuck up. The fact that Breivik has any contact whatsoever with the outside world is staggering:

Breivik, who now goes by the name Fjotolf Hansen, is serving a 21-year-sentence that can be extended indefinitely. He is held in isolation without internet access, and his limited contacts with the outside world are closely monitored, at times blocked.

"If the correspondence could inspire acts of violence, then we are allowed to stop it," Espen Jambak, the deputy head of the high security Skien prison where Breivik is incarcerated, told AFP.

"We feel we have good control" over his correspondence, he said.
Breivik's shadow hangs heavy over Christchurch attack

Didn't Breivik himself claim to have met a fellow Templar, a Serb mercenary, in Monrovia (capital of Liberia)? Don't forget how much of what these cunts do and believe is Walter Mitty narcissism.
