Even if the rule was changed to include changing party as grounds to allow a re-call petition it would be something. That way if the petition did not get enough signatures, the MP can claim they still have support.

TBF it should be an automatic by-election, no recall petition nonsense. We used to have automatic by-elections whenever someone was appointed as a minister, and this is much worse (especially not even a month after a General Election).
