SNP-led Glasgow Council are scab scum

danny la rouge

More like *fanny* la rouge!
They’ve badly miscalculated this. It doesn’t do them any favours at all.

i was just out on the bike with our three year old and saw two clennie vans with non uniformed folk in them. never clicked when i saw them.

funny enough one was in finnieston, the other just next to kelvin hall. no wanting shown up in front of the cop 26 people, i would guess.

Atrophy, entropy & decay. The fate of all political movements that have largely been unchallenged by any credible opposition for so long.

Unfortunately a lot of ordinary people will pay a heavy price in terms of health, styandards of living and being subject to Victorian strike breaking tactics at work before things get better.

Fuck the SNP, and their enablers in the Green party.

Those of you who know Glasgow may know the People’s Palace in Glasgow Green. It used to be a celebration of the people’s history and a wonder place to shelter from the elements with a coffee. It has lain closed and crumbling under the SNP leadership.

Here are the Winter Gardens as we knew and loved them:

i had no idea about this, it’s awful. has it happened just since covid, or before that? it’s probably six or seven years since i’ve been down there, gutted to see this.

i’ve watched the city gradually turn into a total shithole since the snp won the council. cuts everywhere, no street cleaners ever in sight, bin collections so infrequent that bin sheds are overflowing and streets are filled with crap that falls out the overfull recycling bins. repeatedly i phone the environmental health and complain. they sort it out and a few weeks later the same again. it has really escalated since covid. they’re using it as an excuse to cut services. kelvingrove park full of beer cans and broken glass. i don’t think there is anybody cleaning it. broken glass stays on streets for months. they do nothing.

the labour council were bad, and known to be corrupt, but i never imagined the city could get as bad as it is now. it’s shameful. roll on the cooncil elections, surely nobody will vote for these useless corrupt fuckers again.

Don't get me started about the bins. I had to ask for extra recycling bins for our flats because the council decided to empty the recycling every 16 days instead of 14, reducing the service by 13%. My neighbours are selfish and don't fold down boxes so there was no room for my recycling. I have the European box mountain folded down in my flat because I couldn't take much out during my shielding last year, and I when I did there was no room in the bins.

I am appalled at the winter gardens. They were beautiful.

That is actually quite shocking to see.

Agree that the SNP will be ripped apart in Glasgow in the forthcoming council elections. And deservedly so. A genuinely awful group of people.

Labour just have to be semi-decent and they shoiuld win the council chambers back.

It has to be said that they aren’t. Just from personal experience, I can guarantee that when I email my councillors, the Labour one is the only one who doesn’t reply. Never has. Not once.

aye, same experience here. it’s pretty bad, you’d think they’d at least be wanting to drum up some good will.

It’s astonishing. It’s like they still have the attitude of entitlement that you’d think had been knocked out of them by their lowly state, but it seems to have had the opposite effect. Although the SNP should lose Glasgow Council, it won’t be Labour’s doing if they do. It’ll be their own.

Given the STV electoral system what's the chances of an upstart challenger campaign or movement getting into council and giving the SNP and Labour a kicking? Even just to prevent both parties getting a majority and what would it look like?

Och, slim to vanishing. Who are they? Where are they going to come from? I suspect weepiper is right: much as the SNP deserve a drubbing, people aren’t ready to go back to Labour. What does that leave? Greens? Nah.

Yeah true. Labour have some quite noisy half - ok frontliners but the party membership has cratered and those that remain tend to be girning old timers, staunchly unionist and waiting for Sur Kieth / Anas to build a time machine that will take them back to about 1963.

A return to 1963 can be presented as progressive as the Tories seem hell bent on trapping us all in a damp weekend in the mid 50s, which is in itself far too contemporary & forward thinking for Farage & co.

The UK Morris Marina is stuck in reverse and screeching backwards in a big acrid cloud of fuckedclutch smoke. Don’t know what I was thinking to be honest.

Glasgow doesn't want Labour back, though. Memories aren't that short. I don't know what the actual alternative is.

For Labour to even start to make inroads into their lost votes/seats etc they will need to at the very least change their one-eyed position on the constitution. Without doing that they literally refuse to engage with the changing and moving demographic. To remain in their 'Better Together' miindset cuts off a huge swathes of voters who will simply ignore anything else they have to say because their 'unionism' is so off putting. Consequently what could be, and should be, a more radical politics fails at the 'better Together' hurdle.

i always complain when that happens. takes me five minutes and it's a fucking pain for them.

from the scottish code of conduct for councillors:

i'd say that means they're supposed to get back to you
