Show us yer house and house-related meddlings

I understand completely, I don't have any physical bladder or bowel issues but my god I am plagued with psychological ones - if I know I am going to not have access to facilities I get the fear (and sometimes an upset stomach!)
We're going to see the fitters in the showroom on Thursday so I think we need to ask about it then.

Tell me what colour to paint my office/spare room/sewing room because I can’t decide.
It’s a double room. Furniture, woodwork and blinds are white and new sofabed will be charcoal.
Initially I was going for a mustardy yellow but then I read that yellow isn’t great for working because it can overstimulate the eyes. Should I ignore this? Is this stuff bollocks? I read that pink is good and ideal for my profession. 😄
Then I decided on peach but I now realise this is ridiculous and I don’t even like the colour after spending 15 fucking quid on peach testers that I hate.

I don’t want blue, would consider green.
Nothing too bright.

Help, I’ve always known what colour I want to paint and I only have 3 days to decide because we need to paint before the new sofa bed arrives next week.

Pale grey is very modern and in vogue, and won't affect the way you perceive colours in fabrics/yarns.

Very light shade IMO

White? Will go with charcoal sofa and white blinds, will look nice with brightly coloured ornaments or pictures against it, easy to match if you change the blinds or the sofa.

I chose a kind of very, very pale turquoise, almost a seaspray colour, for our spare bedroom which I use as an office. I do like it but it is so hard to match and the room desperately needs new curtains.

We've just painted our spare room/office card green and I love it. I'm using darker green, white and pink as well in the room.

Thanks. I definitely don’t want white, I like a colour against the white paintwork. White will feel a bit cold I think. There isn’t really a lot of places to add ornaments and stuff to brighten it up.
Not really keen on grey either, the carpet and sofa will be grey so the room will need some colour. It’s also been done to death. That’s not a reason not to use it but I am a bit sick of seeing entirely grey houses!

That green is lovely Saffy.

I was quite down with the fashion for sage type paint colour a couple of years ago, would work well with cream woodwork or as a feature wall in a smaller room where you wanted most of the walls lighter.

One of the best things is that the surplus doorbell has gone - the house was never flats but the elderly parents of one of the previous owners lived mostly downstairs for years while they lived mostly upstairs and they had separate bells. The consequence for us was that people were frequently confused by the two bells and often either went away without pressing either, or tapped gently on the door as they were worried about pressing the wrong one presumably. We disconnected one and covered it with duct tape which I thought would be clear but, nope, still had missed deliveries when we were in because apparently they still were too concerned about pressing the one available doorbell  Decorator took it off at the start of the week and we had a bunch of deliveries the next day who all rang, hurrah!

Just laughing a bit at this cos over here the postman / delivery person would ring both bells AND knock ...and probably tap on the window for good measure 😁

I have the most terrible trouble with deliveries (the downside of living on an entirely pedestrianised estate) - we have an entryphone but the main door to the block is unlocked in the mornings (which I object to) to let the postie in.

We have 2 issues here:

1. People come in and knock on the door without pressing the buzzer, and we can't hear a knock on the door so we miss deliveries.

2. Some delivery drivers have a large number of deliveries to make on a timer, see that we are on a pedestrianised estate, and choose to skip our delivery because it will take some time to walk to us - if they think they can skip us in favour of getting the next 10 deliveries done on time they will - and I harbour no ill will to the delivery drivers themselves, but I want to bring down the fires of hell on the system that makes this happen because 9 out of 10 times we do not get a delivery on time.

It is really quiet here though - no traffic noise, probably one of the quietest places in the world to live, and certainly very quiet for London.

Looby go pink, obvs. Not pink pink but the kind that isn't even really pink in any very obvious way. The grey with shades of grey thing i think is really boring now but, greys that are in fact PINK are the way forward.

behold, my new door. IMG_0948 2.jpeg
It fits well, i think, sits there looking happy enough with the windows. It lets in about 3 times more light than what was there before, and it opens and closes properly which is a great thing to look for in a door.
Tbh I don't adore it but that's just me being a weirdo, its a good door, hefty bit of kit and makes that reassuring sound when you shut it like some very expensive car. I will need to change the shiny brass handles cos i hate them.

I was just coming here to say 'pink!' Like calamine lotion, germolene etc. Or a colour I think of as 'grink' - like F&B Peignoir.

Lovely! Lots of good stuff going on in that photo too.

Door looks lovely bimble.
I actually quite like calamine/germoline pink. There’s actually a calamine crown paint that we used to have in our bathroom. There’s quite a lot of pink in my house though, I’m a bit worried it’s too much. 😄 Bedroom is pink, all bathroom accessories are blush. Oh well, if any room should be pink, it’s this one. 👍

Can anyone give me some ideas for this living room? I don't know where to begin...but guess I need to sort the floor and walls out before furnishing. I've never had to do anything like this before...

All sorting the floor involves at its most basic is just getting some carpet put in - I gather from previous posts that you are not particularly DIY inclined and may not want to do that yourself, but carpet places often do deals including fitting and laying underlay and carpet :) Once you have that in, the room will feel a lot more like home :)

There doesn't look to be too much wrong with it other than that :)

I'm just planning at the moment. Will hopefully have the keys soonish.

Photo was taken with a wide lens to fit the room in, it's quite small. The only thing I have to put in there is a TV.

Step one will be ripping off and disposing of those net curtains which look like they've been gently soaked in wee.
I'd paint the walls yourself if you can, before doing anything to the floor obvs.
Its a nice way of sort of taking ownership of a place i think and looks like you can quite easily reach everywhere in there.

Looks nice. My advice is don't rush things. Some stuff you can do regardless, like sort the floor with carpet or whatever. But for example you might go big on buying furniture to suit some particular layout, sit down to watch TV and realise the sun is shining on the thing at the time of day you watch it. So take it easy and live with it a little while before you commit to stuff.

It's a nice room, once you get your TV in and get a carpet fitted and a sofa it will be lovely - then you can think about where you might want other stuff like maybe a side table or a picture or two on the walls etc. It's a nice square room which is good. Either side of what I assume used to be a chimney breast would be a natural place to put up some shelves for books or ornaments :)

😆 I was just going to wash the curtains for now. They actually are meant to be a yellow colour.
