Why are they boxing out the walls and ceilings and losing you space?

because that’s the way they do it in Portugal! None of the walls are straight or even and this way they can go straight over the existing tiles without having to remove them and they can run all the new electric through the boxing. Apart from in the kitchen where they’ve had to dig into the walls which is an arse.
We looked at lots of different options but this was the most straightforward and affordable, luckily rooms very spacious and high so we can afford to lose the space.
I was a bit worried about the height of the hall this morning but came back and compared it to our rental house and it’s going to be fine and I’m sure once we are in we will never miss the bit that’s been boxed in

Consider using the services of a stump grinder to remove the stump. Would be money well spent

We were at a garden gathering yesterday in a neighbours house & a friend who was there is a gardener & he came & had a look. He has advised what to do ..I was too tipsy to remember! He lent the neighbour we were at a stump grinder not long back I found out.

shakespearegirl - we had patterned tiles very similar to that in the kitchen we inherited, only brown and orange!

There's some lovely wood on this thread :)
I love wood (timber products). Friends are embarrassed to go in the shops with me as I have a tendency to stroke and sniff wooden objects.
I love my Tibetan prayer table, however it's the slab on the right that was given to me by another wood enthusiast. Was thinking of turning into a side IMG_20210430_000345.jpgtable, a friend suggested hair pin legs, I was thinking more wrought iron or finding a suitable log in the woods that they are currently thinning out?

That really is beautiful. My Radar is in a sleeping cat casket exactly the same design as those, I wish I had somewhere a bit nicer to put him than on my chest of drawers surrounded by random junk. (Stupid me having a cry about him again, it never fully goes away). I should look into a better little display area.

It's 5 years since I lost korky and I still get upset. She's buried by where I sit in the garden and I often have a chat . X

i am having extreme excitement having just seen an advert on gumtree for a wooden greenhouse, only slightly broken and painted a lovely colour, for five pounds, buyer to dismantle and remove. If they reply, all manner of skillful non-disasters will ensure with me on my own and some screwdrivers.

I had to take down the wooden greenhouse which came with my house as it had started to rot and was falling down. So do check that it is sound before you start - I'd be concerned that the paint is covering all manner of deterioration.. I took all the glass panels out very careful and freecycled them, but it took ages.

For a fiver, I think its worth a try. The lead time on new greenhouses in the uk at the moment is minimum 30 weeks (!) which is not even possible for me to consider, that sort of delayed gratification.

Dismantling and moving the panes of glass in a greenhouse can be hellish and dangerous. If you go into it with your eyes open, though, I wish you well with it!

rubbershoes impressive, those are the best jobs sometimes the ones that you've been meaning to sort out for ages.
With the postcrete do you just throw the leftovers in the bin after its all gone solid in the bucket? Am thinking to have a go of this, on my leaning bird feeder.

I didn't mix it in the bucket. The instructions said put the water in the hole, then the postcrete

Don't try to mix it, it goes off in 15 mins. Pour water in the hole, fill with postcrete and pour some more water over the top.

Too boring to bother showing, but tomorrow will be 'fun', as I contacted our decorator last night about sorting out our kitchen and he has a gap so can start it in the morning. We painted the wall & ceiling ourselves after installation and plastering 3.5 years ago, only the paint didn't go on too well and is quite blotchy, gsv insisted we didn't paint one bit that looked a bit damp but it turned out it wasn't it was just a slightly different coloured bit of plaster, some cracks have developed in some of the plaster since, plus there's a load of uneven filler and wonky skirting board by the door that's never been dealt with. But we should (please God) have a pre-bat mitzvah dinner here with family end of next month and I can't stand it being like that any longer. Shouldn't take too long to do at least, and luckily tomorrow is a 'fast day' on my 5:2 diet, so I won't have too much need of kitchen.
