Show us yer house and house-related meddlings

Oh I do like that turquoise a lot! I do think something really colourful like that would look so good, the light here is very bright which suits that kind of thing. I'm going to consult my painter mate about what is possible, it might be easiest just to paint the metal frame and get lots of cushions. Or if he reckons its possible I'll probably end of spraying it bright green or something. :D

My house meddling today is totally joyless expensive and very loud. There are people sawing and drilling and stomping around above my head to fix the leaking flat roof and when it’s over all I’ll have is a new but still ugly flat roof. :(

Chairman Meow if you use the Hammerite hammered finish it's quite forgiving of imperfections. I used it in silver on an iron chair I freecycled many years ago, it's still going strong.

Hammered finish comes in black, white and silver, but smooth finish comes in 8 colours including a bright yellow and a bright red. There's also colour mixing of 25 shades including a turquoise colour. There's a website www.hammerite.co.uk if you want to find out more about the colours available.

Yes I'm definitely considering turquoise, if I can find a way to do it. I'm getting my painter mate round at the weekend to have a look, if there is an easy-ish way to do it he will know (he's a total slacker! :D) If its going to be a nightmare I'll just do the stand and get some really bright cushions. And then the bloody cats will probably claim it!

I do think that either orange or turquoise work particularly well if you are going for a retro 60s/70s vibe or on furnishings that are either from that era or based on design of that era.

I've a teak couch and 2 armchairs from the late 60s original Crannach furniture. Irish design very similar to Danish furniturest that time.

A bit like this style.

The seats/ square cushions were originally in Orange woolen tweed. But the material was so worn they were reupholstered twice more. The layers are still there. I'm going to redo them. But I got porridgy / putty coloured woolen tweed material. Got it on Ebay for half nothing a few years ago. Poor postman nearly collapsed trying to carry the roll in. 25 yards of it!!
I would have loved orange but its very hard to get tweedy wool in orange...on a low budget.

This will be my corona lockdown project methinks.
I might knit orange cushion covers for some throw cushions. Just to get some colour...and a mid century vibe.

Managed to get the finishing touches to the second bedroom done on Sunday. Floor done, decorating, new blind and new sockets and light switch. Just curtains and furniture to move back in. It had become a storeroom, full of stuff we wouldn’t need again. Big clear out. Ripped carpet out and totally changed look of room. Took it steady over a few weeks. Just needs a new door fitting too, but I’m quite good at those.

Skirting and architrave done yesterday. He only wanted to charge 60 quid for a good four hours work on a Saturday where also he had to rebate the back of the architrave to sit flat where the (new) plaster stepped down to the door lining. Proper job.
Decorator coming in a few weeks for a once over finish as there have been a few little mishaps since I painted plus the skirt and arc will need filling and caulking.

@Sprocket have you stained that floor or painted or something? It's pleasing. :)

No, as folks have noticed it is just a laminate floor on a foil-backed underlay. We just went for a minimalist look. It wasn’t expensive at all.

Yeah, I can't work it out. The cuts at the ends of the boards are very neat :hmm:

Tis nice though :)

Thanks, it was trying to imagine how it would look that caused the concern, but it works and we are very pleased with it. It’s amazing the finish you can achieve with a good quality chopsaw.

If you look carefully, you can see the repeating patterns. So, it's some sort of flooring.

Edit: too slow!

Yep, I was more pleased with my measurements, only had one complete ‘plank‘ left over. Though it is a square room and a doddle to measure and fit.
Thanks for the comments.
