Show us yer house and house-related meddlings

After watching too many youtube videos I'm considering making a concrete worktop. But I'll inevitably fuck it up. If it's not too gauche a question, what did it cost to get someone to make yours?
I have the original quote, as it happens. We also got three lengthy worktops, each quite thick. So here’s the complete cost (length x width x depth in mm):

2175 x 619 x 40 — £841
3525 x 701 x 50 — £1544
2838 length cast in jointed sections x 50 £943

Drainer grooves —200
Template fee — £250
Delivery/installation — £300

Did you seal yours? We didn't (not be design, we just didn't consider it). Fair to say it wears every spillage and mark. Lovely patina mind.

We did seal it, but there are some marks that etc anyway, like acid. I think you just have to go into it knowing that’s part of what you’re getting. It’s fantastic just being able to put anything hot straight on it, though, and I’ve made pastry directly on it too.

I've always liked concrete. Even as a kid.
My dad used to point out really well laid concrete ... enthusiastically.
I would love polished concrete floors and an industrial style home with beautiful Bauhaus-like metal work stairs and beams.
Wide panes of glass...
I can dream. 🙂

kabbes that is beautiful. But please explain how you use the multiple sugar jars - do you actually have different things inside all of the containers and just know what’s in them?

I'd not spotted the sugar but had noticed several flour jars. :)
Brown sugar, granulated sugar, Demerara sugar, icing sugar

Plain flour, self-raising flour, strong flour

Also: brown rice, paella rice, basmati rice.

It would indeed be helpful to have distinguishing labels but you just have to remember the colours. Although I do have to ask the kabbess which flour is which Every Single Time.

And this was the only perfect answer, the one I was hoping for. The only unacceptable one would’ve been that some are empty or have things like spare nests of cables stuffed inside. Thoroughly impressed.

My next meddling will be affixing a 10m by 6m tarpaulin to a flat roof which is leaking in various places. Sunday looks like the least windy day to attempt this. The stuff of Country Living magazine dreams.

An unexpected meddling delight just occurred! My kitchen is a made by a carpenter one not the readymade units and it has 8 little drawers of which for a year and a half ive thought the 2 on bottom left were those fake ones that hide pipes or whatever but just now realising that doesn’t make any sense I had a go with a hammer and lo they are not fake at all, just the dickheads before me had painted them firmly shut . Within, neatly folded, was a little kitchen apron green with owls on. Feel like I’ve discovered ancient treasure.

Pics please :)

Staple gun is not my friend in this situation or is it?
Have managed to wrestle massive tarp into position laid it out and weighed down very temporarily the edges but now a bit stumped how to secure.

I would think rope. Preferable to tie around something that won’t blow away, if possible.

Hard to photograph but its like this, silvery grey tarp now stretched over the whole roof (its my beloved shed/workshop which leaks a lot) the overhang varies between about 50cm and maybe 5cm but is enough on all sides to just be wrapped tightly - somehow - tucked under the edges of the roof. I think if stapled right all the way along so no wind can get in that might work?
