Show us yer house and house-related meddlings

As if you’d guess I’d have anything but an absolutely filthy Miele

There was actually a proper reason for getting it to do with dimensions and a removable top, but let’s pretend it’s naught but middle class pretension.

our washing machine in our new house is the only inherited appliance that isn't shit (boiler died and dishwasher and oven also needed replacing). it is a samsung with such a great spin that everything comes out almost dry.

Installing new shower in toilet room downstairs. Hardest bit so far is getting the gravity drop for the shower waste and washing machine that will be outside the new partition. Need a mate to do the copper plumbing and fix some mickey mouse gas piping and a sparky to do the wiring. Trying some underfloor heating.

Yeah, rodding points always a biggie. I do all my work with boxing, skirting etc capable of disassembly to address my fuck ups that come to light after 3 months or so. Trying to work out the washing machine waste (in black) with a parallel run from the shower with its corner waste. Really tricky; might have to bodge two 40s into a 50 for the last stretch by the soil pipe which goes beyond the outside wall. Not ideal

Yes it would be best to keep the waste pipes independent all the way into the soil stack. Can the washing machine waste go into the white stack in the corner rather than the one outside? Or into the existing WC waste via something like this: 90° Bend Adjustable Length Rigid WC Connector with Vent Boss (assumes you’re using a standpipe, if not you’d need an AAV to avoid the flush pulling the water out of the washing machine waste).

Door on the left so can't run waste on the other side.

I'm connecting the toilet to the soil stack as it had its own sewer connection well out into the room (house plans changed when being built.) Suppose I could run the washing machine waste into the soil pipe but prefer to have the machine waste independent if I can. I think I might get a plumber in to bugger around with the soil stack. The concrete boss that sits above ground at the base of the soil stack is a bloody nuisance. Out of the way and no problem getting the right gradient and both shower and washing machine in separate wastes.

Ah, I see, didn't realise the door was there. Not seeing the rest of the plan, I have no way of knowing if it's an option but I would be asking whether the door position can be moved, because it seems to occupy the place where it's easiest to get into the soil pipe, or through the external wall, and means that all the things that need a drop in the waste pipes are pushed away from that point.

The only other option for the space is to put the shower at the other end, and move the toilet away from the soil stack, so not going too helpful, unfortunately. I'd have to move the soil stack externally somehow and lose the window. A bit of juggling should get it right.

Just had a wall closed off and plastered (originally was open front/sitting room leading to dining room but want to knock through from kitchen to have a large kitchen diner).

Pretty much dried out now and really smooth to touch. Just got to paint it with rest of room now.

So much stuff needs doing here it is untrue - I can do most stuff myself but it is all going to cost money. I really want to get the hall and bathroom walls, and every ceiling in the place, skimmed by someone who knows what they are doing - this is fucking artex city here.

marty21 how much did it cost to have that wall done? Hope you don't mind me asking

I did one get artex off a ceiling using a steamer. Back breaking work, particularly if you choose the hottest day of the year like I did, but possible.

When I had this place done a room at a time it cost about £400 a room. Might be able to get it skimmed for less if you have it all done in one go.

The plastering/skimming of my wall cost £120.
