found it, but i still don't quite know the function of it, ecept that it's an "offshore, tug, supply or dredging vessel"

Its a general purpose OSV - Offshore Supply/Service Vessel. Could be used for umpteen purposes.

Its design is an X-Bow, which is apparently one of the latest hot-poops in OSV design - More fuel efficient, better performance in heavy seas, less noisy/uncomfortable for crews/passengers.

More info here:

thanks, that was great.

in need of a touch of paint:

Some years ago, a former boss was involved in making a documentary on the nuclear presence in Scotland and the "official" line was that US subs absolutely didn't use Faslane and UK subs did not use Holy Loch.

So, what was that footage he shot on a four day visit of UK/US vessels at both Faslane and Holy Loch then...? :D

Spotted this in dock this morning - the HMC Valliant:

Except it has lost the stripes toward the bow and the Union Jacks on the side are a lot bigger now.

Wonder if it is on the way to Shetland for the Tall Ships? There have been a couple of other sailing ships heading for that in this week.
