TGV HST Bullet Train porn

Apparently it stops in the middle of nowhere due to the public being concerned that if it tunnelled under their houses it could cause cancer, like mobile phones do...
Unless it was due to go under the homes of some very high ranking Party/ government officials, I am surprised to hear the opinions and feelings of the public are given such consideration in China.

Didn’t you post the other day about banning private cars and short- haul air travel? So no one can travel at all, just sit in our darkened hovels eating lichen based gruel waiting to die?

The Chinese have built a maglev from downtown Shanghai to the airport. Apparently it’s blisteringly fast, almost but not quite, as fast as you can suck the joy out of life...
I'm not sure exactly what this non sequitur arises from. I was pointing out that it's much more difficult to build high speed and high capacity railways in the UK than it is in China, something that people seem to ignore when they comment on how things compare and rolling their eyes about what we have here. Usually the same people who object to the kind of policy measures that would allow things to actually improve.

Should’ve just built HS2 parallel to the ECML up to Yorkshire. Mostly farmland, few hills, no Cotswold views to spoil. Would have cost a fraction of the chosen route, faster trains to Scotland. Manchester and Birmingham already have pretty fast trains to London.

Ah but HS2 is not primarily about speed. It's about capacity. The WCML is rammed and needs relief. The ECML does not.
HS2 is high speed because if you're going to build a new intercity railway, that's how you should build it.

Well, the southern part of the ECML does need relief.

Of course, 'just' building a route parallel to it would not be a simple matter anyway.

Experimental French Aerotrain. We had a similar prototype on the Fens. Neither were Maglevs I think.

some of BR's DMUs were that layout. [having a brain fail, I can't recall the specific classes]
Class 150s for one. I was going to post a 'meanwhile in Britain' and a picture of a Pacer, but these have been withdrawn, but while looking, the wikipage for Class 150 has a photo of a 5-seat layout.
