Sharia law being imposed in London "Muslim areas"

I'll drink where I want and wear what I want; any religious types be they xtian, muslim or whatever can like it or lump it.

I dont go out of my way to offend anyone, but neither will I kowtow to someone elses religious dogma.

Exactly - If I want to parade around in a nun costume with arse bit cut away with a litre of propriatry brand vodka in one hand and a tub of crisco in the other before passing out face down in the street and being "had" by any and all comers then by christ, that's what I will do.

This might not be relevent or I might even be outing myself as some sort of rabid Islamophobe but I can't really see how anyone could say it's out of order to drink alcohol outside a mosque when there's no shortage of muslim shopkeepers who'll quite happily sell alcohol - They can't be that squeamish about it can they?

At least one of the pubs close to the Whitechapel Mosque is owned and run by Muslims.

Sometimes when the shouty-with-megaphone Jesus is comingback repent ye sinners types are out and about I will give them a bit of a shout back. I am being deliberately offensive telling them there is no god or so on. Am I committing religious hate crimes?
Clearly you are being deliberately offensive as I assume you don't shout back by accident. Whether or not it is a religious hate crime depends on the sentiments you choose to express. Bit of an odd way to waste your time, but clearly it matters to you.

If you want to drink alcohol outside a mosque whilst wearing a bikini you are free to do so (local laws on public alcohol consumption allowing), but if you did so in order to upset people using the Mosque, it would make you a massive dick.

If you did it to lure Choudry into a trap, that's different. But if you can't be arsed to come up with a plan that doesn't also target innocents, then you're no better than he is.

It would, i assume, count as a hate crime on the same grounds that the golliwog in the window was prosecuted as a hate crime. *innocent face* doesn't go down well as a defence in court.

Is this mosque a radical one or are these dicks trying to force an issue to make it one? I'e got some faith in the normal attendees to sort this out.

Are you at work? Because most workplaces don't like it if you get pissed up and go into work. Certainly acting like you've been drinking - trying to pick a fight that's not there.

I've been really quite conciliatory. I backtracked in response to your original post to accommodate one of your points. I'm not feeling so conciliatory now all of a sudden. Fuck off.

That wasn't aimed at you silly. I quoted your post to put my response to farrelhadley's pointless fight picking in touch with the context of my original post. Apologies if i didn't make that clear enough.

Just pointing out that some on this thread have decided that Muslims who attend mosques find the sight of people drinking offensive. stereotype, no?
Just a bit, though I'd have thought the effects of people being deliberately offensive to Muslims outside a mosque would be similar no matter how the people were trying to be offensive. As I mentioned earlier it's the intent. Even if people weren't offended it would still be both a dick move and not really helpful in stemming the sort of behaviour in the OP.

I wish they'd come and protest around mine.
I'm not sure how you would go about this, especially in winter. :(

This is what I was thinking, used by rape apologists everywhere.

I think if the express intention is to get attacked, then that is the one circumstance when it's fair to say they are "asking for it" because they are "asking for it". Someone simply dressing in the way they want to can never be "asking for it".

That does not mean the person who delivers 'it' is perfectly entitled to do so, but it's hardly the same thing!

AFAICT, there's quite a lot of context being missed on this thread. Perhaps if people read the posts that were being responded to, it might help?

Individuals claiming to be self-styled ‘Muslim patrols’ have been harassing members of the public on the streets of east London late at night, including outside our mosque after it has closed. They have anonymously uploaded their exploits to the internet.
These actions are utterly unacceptable and clearly designed to stoke tensions and sow discord. We wholly condemn them. The East London Mosque is committed to building co-operation and harmony between all communities in this borough. The actions of this tiny minority have no place in our faith nor on our streets.
Earlier this week we contacted the Police and the local authorities to alert them to the presence of these individuals and video. We advise anyone who has been harassed by these individuals to contact the Police.
We will monitor the situation closely and our Imams will be speaking out against such actions.
