There was a library at my work and I sometimes read the spectator, and I admit I used to enjoy it just as much as the left wing rags which were more attuned with my beliefs. Largely because I got the sense that the writers weren’t absolute fucking thickos and had some respect for argument and insight. If people really listened carefully and closely instead of half asleep in bed with their laptops open to these grifters they would see they hold about as much weight as Mick down the pub. Hugely influential tho

Exactly. It’s like when William f Buckley debated famous lefties. Could honestly listen to that shit for hours and the interview wouldn’t be the same without him if that makes sense. I see what passes for the culture war, or at least what I’ve seen of it, these days and I just think it a bit sad how unnuanced it is. I note rogan, the number one podcaster in the world, has lost it even more than say last year.

I have heard over the years that in the US at least, if you want to make a decent living as a gigging band, one of the best ways to do so is to go Christian. It's a huge market for music in every style, and it's got a kind of mystical Willing Suspension of Disbelief built in so happy days if you can work out how to really play that.

He’s on Facebook which I’m not anymore, a hairdressers from Maidstone who kept his hairdressers open during Covid because he wanted to and he kept getting fined. He had thousands log onto his live chat which I went to for a laugh once and it was an hour of deranged nonsense, like Loon Bingo. Was a regular on a Millwall forum I attend but learnt to keep his nonsense In check on there.
