Its also credible that he lives in Poland (seeing as there is documentary evidence of a BBC journalist setting foot inside the property with a camera crew and not just taking snaps from the outside) and visits his mom when in the states. I stay with my mum when in Wales . She'd be pissed off if i stayed anywhere else.

Common misconception about the game book. It's not a how to manual itself but a book about PUAs and the society that sprung up online in the early 00s. Yeah the author did become one himself but it's not a manual. It's actually worth a read just to show how creepy and socially odd some of these people are. It seems vastly different now. I did read the odd bit of literature in my early 20s for the same reasons I mentioned. I never did anything with it because the whole thing is just really weird and really American. The misogyny and down right anger was nothing like then as it seems to be now. In fact I seem to remember people who exhibited outright hatred for women being openly mocked and policed in some way. All that seems to be out the window now and it's morphed into really ugly hostility towards women laced with right wing conspiracy theories.

To be clear I'm not longing for the 'good old days' of PUAs just pointing out that a lot of it was more awkward and misguided 'tips' that'll probably get you more laughed at than anything else. It's taken a much more sinister turn it seems, as I suspect it always was going to and I don't doubt it's for the wider social reasons already discussed.

I agree - I also first came across the PUA stuff in the very late 90s or early 00s (I can't remember exactly, or if it was on usenet or forums) online, when I was extremely depressed, desperate and failing at getting laid or a relationship and searching for advice on pulling and relationships.

I thought it was well grim, basically about tricking women into sleeping with you (and I didn't want to trick someone into sleeping with me, I wanted them to want to sleep with me, and besides this stuff was obviously properly wrong), lots of stuff about looking for vulnerable and/or wasted women (as CR has also picked up with Roosh), hypnotism too and though I don't remember date rape drugs being mentioned, I bet they were (or if not only because the people doing it are together enough to know not to publicly post about definitely illegal stuff).

My understanding is ( i forget where i read this and the details are a bit hazy) the he lived with his mother for most of the year then went off on like month long trips, then came home, wrote a bit, lived with her for another say 9 months and then went off for a month. Whilst he cultivated a mythos that he was forever the wandering hipster vagabond he was in fact 10-11 months of a year at home with his mom.

This was during the period he wrote On the Road. Which he tried to make out was an instantaneous burst of writing that took three weeks. Which was bullshit too.

But yes he moved back in with her later on. At least he made no illusions about being on the road when he did that so i've no issue with that.
