It's not just the rape admissions and rape incitement . There's his nasty habit of Internet stalking people who criticise him and all that . Especially female journalists . He encourages his followers to collect as much detail as possible on them from Facebook, hacking etc . And not just them but their families . And then bombard them with all sorts of threats , shaming and the like. Humiliation and aggression . Intimate photos being sent to friends , family and employers...all sorts of sick shit . Just because a woman wrote an article critical of him .

I imagine this type of repercussion would also make a woman thinking of filing a rape complaint think twice .

These people aren't just sad, they're often quite malicious .

He's a predator . And an angry one . Whethers that's down to psychopathy , sociopathy or an anger at what he perceives to have been female slights inflicted on him due to previous "weakness " I know not . But he's definitely fucked up in the head . And definitely seems to be affirming , encouraging and rewarding fucked up behaviour in his followers . Even if theyre not taking his rape advice on board they do seem to be happy enough to be his active accomplices in online stalking and harassment .

Common misconception about the game book. It's not a how to manual itself but a book about PUAs and the society that sprung up online in the early 00s. Yeah the author did become one himself but it's not a manual. It's actually worth a read just to show how creepy and socially odd some of these people are. It also signposts why some are attracted to it (lack of male role model, broken home etc).

It seems vastly different now. I did read the odd bit of literature in my early 20s for the same reasons I mentioned. I never did anything with it because the whole thing is just really weird and really American. The misogyny and down right anger was nothing like then as it seems to be now. In fact I seem to remember people who exhibited outright hatred for women being openly mocked and policed in some way. All that seems to be out the window now and it's morphed into really ugly hostility towards women laced with right wing conspiracy theories.

To be clear I'm not longing for the 'good old days' of PUAs just pointing out that a lot of it was more awkward and misguided 'tips' that'll probably get you more laughed at than anything else. It's taken a much more sinister turn it seems, as I suspect it always was going to and I don't doubt it's for the wider social reasons already discussed.

I just found out in my state women are sometimes billed for gathering a rape kit. (And then there's no guarantee it'll even be processed.) This can amount to hundreds of dollars. There's a bill in the legislature to set up a fund to pay it instead and make it illegal to charge rape victims for a rape kit, but it's outrageous that anyone would charge for this in the first place.
