Rejecting vaccination - "growing public health time bomb", NHS Chief warns

TBH by the time the kids are in school the horse has already bolted. Better to simply sterilise all the anti-vax cretins by handing out free samples of bromide-laced homeopathic miracle remedies.

A bonus point for this plan is that the genuine, grave conspiracy facing the public would go completely unnoticed by the conspironauts because they'd all be too busy wittering on about fluoride mind control or the moon isn't real or some shit.

But then you would have to put up with them until they die out naturally, which could be a while when all most of the vaccinations are focused on childhood diseases.

Surely it would be quicker and easier to herd them into an enclosed facility and dispatch them quickly and efficiently.

Schools already go to great lengths to ensure the wellbeing of their students. Violent or aggressive kids are already excluded if they pose an unacceptable risk to others. Measles is more dangerous than getting a bit of a kicking on the playground.

Getting a bit of kicking in the playground may have made you the person you are, which is demonstrably a good reason for making sure it doesn't happen anymore. Do you really think you can dismiss bullying so casually?

It’s very simple. If you are antivax you are a skull fuckingly stupid and selfish cunt who has no place whatsoever in our society.

Vaccinations should be mandatory for all, obviously apart from those with genuine medical reasons (ie signed off by a doctor) preventing them.

Religious reasons? “Respect my body autonomy” reasons? Hippy twat reasons? Fuck off.

Amazing how it’s only in western, affluent areas with people who are living with the benefits of mass vaccination programs where you find these dickheads who are “woke” enough to “research” how bad vaccines are.

Punch them all in the face, the dumb fucks.

Yet another reactionary cunt having a go!

I don't think that post was so much about dismissing bullying as pointing out that if we exclude kids from schools to reduce harm in one sense, then why not another kind of harm?

It's a flawed argument, but it's undeniable that somehow a lot of cultural elements (narcissism, the broken social contract, the Dunning-Kruger effect, people thinking it's fine to make up any manner of shit on social media) combined with the loss of living memory of what havoc these diseases caused in the past, has combined to create a kind of conspiraloonery which has spread well beyond the normal suspects.

It's tempting to sneer because it's so hard to see how this might be fixed, but doesn't help anything.

You haven’t really understood his post there, have you?

Compulsory vaccination for me too, with exceptions for medically-certified reasons of course. Vaccines are an incredible achievement and too important to jeopardise because some people hold ill-informed opinions.

There's obviously a need to engage with communities who reject vaccination - religious or non-religious - to ensure they understand the reasons for compulsion, and the scientific evidence. No guarantee that would convince every parent, but at least it would persuade some to change their minds.

I agree with compelling social media firms to remove/ban such content - before they were around anti-vaxxers could create websites to peddle their bullshit, but their reach was limited. SM turbo-charges their dangerous views. No ban is going to be 100% effective, but it could weed out a great deal of misinformation that circulates.

Andrew Wakefield has a lot to answer for, but he's not the only one to blame of course.

Scientific and medical reasons why people should get their children vaccinated:

www.cdc.gov/measles/about/complications.html

As for the anti-vaxxers and other such internet loons and mad conspiracists...they should be treated as a joke. Only this isn't a joke, really; children are dying and will die because of this continued dumb scaremongering. It instinctively plays upon some parents (understandable) fears when it comes to their offspring's health and welfare. All this despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary. The now thoroughly discredited 'study' of former doctor Andrew Wakefield, which began all this, has an awful lot to answer for. To say the very least.

You haven’t really understood his post there, have you?

I caught the rank reek of macho posturing emanating from my phone from both his and your post. That was enough for me.

I believe children should be vaccinated and I also believe that they shouldn'tget the shit kicked out them in the playground. As to lives ruined, I would imagine that in reality more are ruined by bullying than by measles

For those who want to see just how deep some idiots fall down this rabbit hole - and those who have a strong stomach - I recommend following the “detox, antivax and woo insanity” group on Facebook. I’m really not joking about the needing a strong stomach bit though.

I'm guessing that's a "NSFW". :D

edit: OMG, I think I'd forgotten that people who were this far gone even existed!

This isn't about being liberal though, this is a real public health crisis.

Time for a massive ad campaign like the tombstone ads for AIDS awareness back in the day?

They were shit though. Certainly as far as informing the public about risks And what AIDS actually is. But I take your point a good canny campaign is probably needed on social media.

I am uncomfortable with making vaccines compulsory. Albeit I think Those denying them to their children based on crap they’ve read on Facebook are morons.

Or just post something on natural news stating that climbing into a woodchipper cures IBS.

And it isn’t just idiots happening to read stuff online (although clearly that’s part of it). Anti-vax theories are deliberately pushed by quacks, charlatans (eg Wakefield) and various other scum, and the targets of these campaigns are often those who are more vulnerable to this poison

Wow, I knew you were an idiot but turns out you're also a massive bitch. I actually respect you slightly more now.
