recommend me something lush & ambient

Banco De Gaia ((shudder))
you could always get it here if you want to cancel it...
Yeah, googled it and found almost as soon as I had written it. Got to protect that ratio.
Have you listened to Grouper yet?

That blog also says that October Language is the best example of ambient music ever made??
Sounds like it maybe worth a listen.

Bizarrely enough I was just about to post one more reccomendation which I had previously forgotten: October Language by Belong.

You should definitely check it out - it's an album that can be enjoyed quietly but for my money one that should be enjoyed fucking loud as it's at volume that it's true magnificence becomes most apparent.:)

just listening to microscopic by gas,
awesome stuff, thanks !!!

I just realised I was listening to another gas not the gas you lot were on about,
its still good ;)

horrible cod-ethnic toss

Thanks for the correction man, i'll just delete him from my library now... ;)

I like shit like that, so... boo fucking hoo, some might benefit from t'suggestion, and if they think it is indeed a pile of wankadizzle then no harm.. :)

Saddleback is another good ambient band. It might be a little busy for some peoples tastes.
Get "Everythings A Love Letter"
Its more of a live band type affair.

tee hee. i did some laptop djing at an experimental night on tuesday, playing pretty much random songs from the various albums I've downloaded as a result of this thread... and now i've been booked for a gig on monday in manchester, supporting the splendid Machinefabriek.

i feel like a massive fraud... :D

You utter bastard!

This is the first post that has moved me to respond in almost a year.

In any case, my recommendations...

Reeeeally ambient:

William Basinski - Melancholia
William Basinski - 92982
Mokira - Persona

More piano and strings but still ambient at heart:

Max Richter - The Blue Notebooks
Max Richter - Memoryhouse
Jacaszek - Treny
Peter Broderick - Float
Hauschka - Ferndorf
Sylvain Chauveau - Nocturne Impalpable

Bit more electronic style shit going on but you know, it's ambient:

Murcof - Cosmos
Murcof - Martres
Hannu - Hintergarden
Variant - The Setting Sun

William Basinski - 92982

I was listening to this the other day, really cool.

The Gas - Pop album was lovely lying on the grass in the sun on two lunch breaks this week.
This thread delivers :)

been madly downloading...

porn sword tobacco - pretty good, too much beats though...
loving the pan american album so far, william basinski lined up shortly. :)

have you ever tried the fax label?
low quality control but some gems, esp the first silence collabs, dreamfish, air and the collabs with tetsuo inoue and deep space network. oh, and from within too

i've got loads of older namlook and related - all those chill out or die comps were chock full of the stuff. much of it isn't to my taste these days though...

some fine looking stuff there orang... will have a browse through over the next few days.

in other news, the tim hecker / aiden baker album here is superb...
