Pre-Season 22/23

We dont want to announce that we maybe offering him a contract in case some one else comes in and offers him another one, Club cant tell us anything but 'Jordon Green' definitely isnt going to Maidstone
Nobody said Green isn’t going anywhere just that we expected him to sign.as is the case with a lot of players. However he is free to sign anywhere without our knowledge but he he hasn’t signed for anyone as far as we know. Clubs have released and retained lists. Higgs was not released because his contract ended, as did everyone apart from Holland & Vint. Players we are looking to resign are not retained unless we offer them a new contract and they are under 24 when they can still move but we can seek compensation. Our offer is meaningless as they can just sign for anybody else.Everybody else is in negotiations with us but could be talking to any number of clubs.

Turning to the Millwall game, I am advised that both clubs agreed to release it at 12 tomorrow but it appears Millwall don’t know what day of the week it is. Outside our control. Same with Whitehawk who I am told broke an agreement.

As for pricing, how lovely of Dartford to reduce regular prices but I am pretty sure we work out much cheaper over the season. I believe they change £15 & £10. Season tickets at £300 for a reserved seat, concessions £220 with a seat.

They may want to reduce prices to encourage all the Millwall fans to come regularly and grow their crowds. I have no idea.

The club doesn’t get everything right and is aware it needs to improve but some of the complaints would be difficult to overcome unless rules relating to players are changed.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, what about Gav? Has he been offered a new contract? Has he accepted?

My stance at the end of last season was that I wasn't going to renew my ST if he was still at the helm... I may be softening on that but it would still be nice to know either way
Perhaps he's waiting another offer. Have Dartford, for example, appointed a successor to King?

Indeed - think it underlines the difference in approach in attracting and growing support.
I am not sure that Millwall is a fixture we would target to attract new fans. We also have the ongoing challenge of trying to make the experience better for the fans we have. Dartford have relatively poor support for a large town and plenty of room for new fans.

I meant the focus on attracting families, which is something I've always liked about our crowd.

Farnborough have announced we're playing at their place on Saturday 23rd July, 1pm kick off.

Prices are £10 adults, £8 concessions, £3 for 14-16 year olds, free for under 14s.

Gav remains under contract and any new one rests with the Directors. He is busy recruiting for next season and I believe there is a will on both sides for him to continue.
Is that the contract that runs out in a few weeks? Squeaky bum time if so...

A lot of them will probably fit in well at Dartford

On the basis of results over the past three years that's...surprising. However the new updates are appreciated, even if other clubs are roundly ignoring agreements not to publicise friendlies!

I believe season tickets and news will be out next week. The Farnborough game is a contractual obligation for Harris Seely transfer. As we play them in the league this season we are surprised they wanted the game. On that basis I would not expect us to reveal too much in terms of team or tactics.

The club is unashamedly a work in progress that’s growth massively outstripped its infrastructure and resources. In between the battles to just stay alive it has meant that any plans have generally been overtaken by events. Having somehow got the club this far. I know there are now plans developed covering the next 3 years that I hope will see things be less chaotic. In reality we have not had a ‘normal’ season since the year before promotion, what with the stadium and pandemic plus the late start last term.
If we just all respect each other’s views and raise any issues through the board or via the trust I am sure we can all go forward in some harmony or at least with mutual respect for everyone. Nobody is setting out to upset fans and sometimes expectation and reality are different. Communication will improve once it is somebody’s sole focus and everything is joined up.

Looks like Dulwich are playing AFC Croydon Athletic on Friday 22nd July, I imagine it'll be largely a youth team, as they are playing Farnborough the day after.

From what's been announced, think this is what the pre-season schedule looks like so far:

Sat 9th July – Whitehawk (A) – 3.00pm
Tues 19th July – Millwall U23s (H) – 7.45pm
Fri 22nd July – Croydon Athletic (A) – TBC
Sat 23rd July – Farnborough (A) – 1.00pm

I could understand the “not until they’re confirmed” argument about PSF’s if there was an agreement with the opposition to do the same but so far we seem to have had these announced (or one case leaked it seems) by four other clubs now.
QPR, Millwall, Whitehawk and Sittingbourne. Just needs something as simple as stating that all pre season fixtures are provisional and may change at short notice.

As the club spend money on posters etc better to get it right when it’s still a month away.
I’m sure if I go back far enough I will find people unhappy at changes to fixtures.
Some of those announced will likely be squad/B Team/youth games.
Who has announced QPR as that one I have not heard?
I’m told friendlies will be out next week along with player news and season tickets.

I’m sure we’re but the only club to spend money on posters advertising games and that argument doesn’t really fit when four out of these five fixtures (not including QPR as it’s still rumoured) are away from Champion Hill.

Remember visiting their old ground when my girls were little and El Presidente Jack pulled up in his posh car and asked us for directions!

Griff and there you summed it up at the end. Other than Millwall the games are away and not out game to organise. Whilst in the case of Whitehawk they were asked to work with us on the announcements, no such restriction was placed on Sittingbourne, Croydon Ath and Farnborough because 2 of those are likely to be primarily B/Youth games and the 4th is one we are obliged to play against a team we will visit in the league . In the case of Whitehawk, if it wasn’t for the link with some fundraising in the past and the involvement of Danny Mills that game would have been pulled because of their disrespect of our wishes. We get lots of requests we don’t agree to and in one case we were able to replace one national division side with another very quickly, but they will announce in line with us.
The club has chosen to arrange all games and then announce them after launching season tickets for the season(the launch of which was dependent on a new ticket supplier being ready to go) Agree or disagree but that is a decision I am told has been taken.
Frankly, it’s great people want news but it’s still a month away from any matches being played& lots of clubs haven’t said much so far.
As for the continued mention of QPR that is something I have not heard other than on here.

I also heard another fixture

Even if there are “only” B team, youth team, triallist, etc fixtures wouldn’t it be nice of our club to publicise them to our fans. Remember when we were a smaller club who hoped for a good income from the visits of clubs at our current level to put some money in the coffers before the season started in earnest.

First friendly I am going to is in less than 2 weeks time tbf - Step 3 v Championship full squad and already well publicised despite "volunteers". But thanks Liam for coming on here and explaining.

Agree with that last comment. This shouldn’t be Liam’s role to come on here and explain. As the club is growing we need a coordinated communications strategy to match. Hopefully we can bring in someone with the media savvy, time and skills to keep this club moving forward in that department.

As others have already said, massively appreciate you coming on here and keeping us as updated as possible liamdhfc.

Got to say, though, most NLS clubs have already published a lot if not all of their pre-season fixtures - only Hampton & Richmond, Hemel Hempstead and Welling haven't announced anything so far. And of those three, they've all been announcing some or all of retained players, signings and season ticket details.

Know it might not seem like it, but I'm not trying to bang the same drum for the fun of it - if it is a perception that lots of other clubs at our level are taking the same approach as we are, it's not the case.
