The instant custard in question is known simply as 'Birds', m'dear.

Incidentally, did you know that custard powder explodes when mixed with air and touched off with a cigarette lighter?

This scientific fact is not, however, best proven within the confined space of a kitchen in a student flat while extremely pissed and in the middle of a house party. That's one student place I'll never be invited to again.

You can get the same affect with flour too. It's very spectacular. I am told sugar works too, but I have yet to try. Aluminium powder is a good one.

DotCommunist in his milk float, earlier today...

And a coffee more suited to the caffeine addiction of Orang Utan

Bloody hell, you're re-awakening the pyromaniac in me.
I only once did the flour or cocoa powder in a cocoa tin thing out on the roof outside my bedroom window as a kid.

I have a bit of a custard habit at the moment and those very nearly empty custard containers beckon - trouble is I can't be arsed to rig up a spark plug so it'll be a taper on a stick.

I've just discovered the delights of Coffee Mate. I can now have white coffee at work.

Get a little coolbag, the sort they sell for kids lunches and an icepack - then you can take your own fresh milk and enjoy it all day! :D

You do realise that Coffee Mate is mainly derived from Corn Oil - Which is becoming one of the most vile and insidious ingredients in industrial food production.

I've not seen it in the shops for at least 2 years now. Google says tesco still sells it so clearly their is a hardcore of 'birds dem who will never give up on it.

I just made a particularly non-bitter cup of coffee by using water that was a little too cold ... it made me wonder if I liked the flavour sufficiently to offset the annoyance of coffee that got cold in the mug too quickly...

I was actually googling for "mellow birds" in combination with "doilies" and "toilet roll fairy" ...

  • Your Mellow Bird's coffee beans have been carefully selected and mellow roasted for a delicious mild taste
  • Packaged in a protective atmosphere.

I suppose they had to find something to say about it ...

Mellow Birds Instant Coffee 200G - Tesco Groceries

I was in a cafe in Littlehampton and I when I asked for a coffee I was served a light beige tasteless offering which could only be Mellow Birds. When I complained that it wasn't strong enough, the lady cracked open the jar of Mellow Birds and deposited a mound on a saucer. When I dropped the whole chuffing lot - about 5 large teaspoon fulls at least - the coffee went from light beige to a tiny shade darker. And it still tasted utter shit.
