Peckham Town FC - news and discussion

I think I've been quite restrained in referencing that...

I wasn't quite so restrained.

"But ref, I only pushed him over with one hand."

Peckham put in a good performance today in front of a bumper crowd of 244, but the game ended up 0-0 thanks to Fleetdown's extra defensively minded tactics.

Frustration for the women’s team this weekend. We were supposed to have a top of the table clash with leaders Franchester today but in midweek the league decided this was going to be a double header. Not going into all the politics of this but we ended up with no game today but still with a double header on Saturday 9th March. This will be two 60 minute games back to back with points for each individually. Of course that’s the last day of the season. It’s also a 10am kick off so plenty of make it back to the Menace Arena for the 2:45 pm KO vs Welling Park. Your support would be much appreciated.

There's a dreaded pitch inspection scheduled for tomorrow 🤞

It’s amazing there’s even an inspection if you ask me. They must have put a ton of work in again. My lad’s Saturday morning practice got cancelled as early as yesterday, and he plays up the hill!
Fingers crossed. But it’s the hope that kills you….

Annoyingly the Peckham Women’s game resulted in a walkover as Croydon were unable to field a team. Though we get awarded a 3-0 win this was an opportunity to add some pluses to the goal difference in the race for the Division One North title. We were briefly top of the table but our rivals Franchester won 6-1 to reclaim top spot with two weeks of the season left. There’s four games left both double headers, next week vs South London Laces then an amazing winner takes all doubleheader with Franchester on Saturday 9th March kicking off at 10am on Clapham Common. All support would be so appreciated.

Seems a fault in the system that. Could walkovers be the maximum of 3-0 or say the average goals scored by team walking over minus average conceded by team being walked over? Maybe also with an adjustment for relative position, so somehow you’d say too walking over bottom gets more than the average? Or is that just too complex/subjective…?

Sort of Duckworth Lewis for grassroots football?

Rather unsurprisingly our double header with South London Laces has been called off. There’s the chance of the games being played at another venue but the details need to be finalised. More news when it’s announced.

It’s going down to the wire for the Peckham Women’s team. With a raft of postponements of late we had to play a double header against South London Laces, probably not the best of opponents to face in one of these 2x60 minutes games. Laces run about half a dozen teams & were able to call on a few of their more experienced players to bolster the numbers whilst quite of few of the Peckham team would play the full two hours! It took a while to get started but two first half goals were enough to claim maximum points in game one though yours truly had to make a few smart saves to stop Laces getting back into the game. Game two followed in much the same vein though Laces proved a greater threat than they had at the start of the first game. However we made the breakthrough midway through the half and stayed ahead until the break. The second half, the fourth block of 30 minutes played, proved annoyingly fractured with a number of injuries to players, too many caused by foul play on the part of the opposition that went unpunished. Won’t repeat what one of our other opponents had said about Laces but it was clear where that came from - an overly aggressive male coach. Anyway we were denied a penalty after a shot was palmed due by a defender and with about ten minutes left Laces equalised when a hoofed ball forward was met by the left winger. She beat our last defender and though I tried to narrow the angle, she stabbed the ball wide of me. The same player might have won them the game at the death but she stabbed the ball wide after I’d narrowed the angle. The result sets up a winner takes all scenario next Saturday morning when we play leaders Franchester who won both their double header games against Camden Town. Franchester have 34 points, Peckham 31. The game kicks off at 10am on Clapham Common and support from fans would be more than welcome.

So does anyone fancy Saturday's trip to high flying Halls AFC on Saturday? It's going to be a mighty challenge as they sit second in the table and 18 points ahead of us (although we have three games in hand), but football can be a funny game and form books are often thrown out windows. Apparently.

They've got a 4G pitch so the match should go ahead.

That's the pitch Dartford women use next to the main ground. I should double check the venue for this fixture. I was under the impression Halls had taken over the Erith Leisure Centre from Erith Town, who have moved in at Thamesmead, and the FA fixture website lists it for there:

It's been quite hard to work out where the fuck they are, to be honest, and the link to their official homepage is dead from the page I posted earlier.
I've emailed them.

Their Twitter suggests they’ve played home matches at Erith Leisure Centre.

Eg:

Supposing we knocked them out of the Cup (I know this is a league game but stick with me) would your headline be “Decked the Halls”?
