Olympic Opening Ceremony, London 2012

Not bad, not bad at all. The cauldron is a stroke of genius.

I missed the first bit, before the parade of athletes, but my daughter tells me it was pretty good. Mary Poppins fighting Voldemort and all.

A couple of questions: one, to Jacques Rogge - "Britain, the home of modern sport?" Wtf?

To Paul McCartney: "what happened at the beginning of 'Hey Jude'? It was like two people were singing.

To the torch lighter junior athletes: "Whats with the being 'sponsored' by Commanders of the British Empire etc. Can't you leave that pompous gentry out of it?

I will always have a fondness for our opening ceremonies, because it meant so much, and had so much in it, for us as Canadians.

But this was damn good.

ratings. If they just fucked the sport off, did something similarly epic once a month, every month, for the next 4 years, I would be a happy bunny. Would cost a lot less, as well.

I'll be rewatching tomorrow. The first 90 minutes anyway.

Is that the real PC?

i am sure it's as genuine as the posts from HMQ

What impressed me most about the openning ceremony was how quickly the industrial revolution's smoking chimneys seemed to dissapear after they had extended from the ground. It seemed like in the very next shot they had dissapeared to make room for the dancers.

All the sponsors were gold medal winning Olympic athletes who were given their titles in recognition of their Olympic successes.
Not a lot of point giving them such titles and not using them at an actual Olympics, now is there?
