Obi Wan Kenobi

ATOMIC SUPLEX mate, you have to realise we arent 7 anymore and it's not really made for us ( although it does try to be)

I'd relax and go with the flow, it works for me ( although I'm not high brow enough to have worked in telly.)

I can quite happily watch kids TV and appreciate it (or not) thanks.
Just because you make programmes for kids doesn't mean they have to be shit.

I can appreciate that it is not targeted directly at me . . . but you can't simultaneously claim it is made exclusively for seven year olds and not made for adults, yet also probably made for adults (which it almost certainly was given the fan base).

Just sounds like you are making excuses for it. You either liked it or you didn't.
I'll probably have a go at another EP while I have Disney plus.

Man I like it, I'm not making excuses for that fact at all, just seems to me, on this and many other threads you seem to think you're better than people who like stuff and just come to tell us how shit you think things are, which is a shame cos I think you're ok the rest of the time.

I don't think that at all.
I'm not on any high horse. I just type a couple of lines about the last thing I watched.
Obviously I was interested enough to give it a look.

Am I not allowed to say I dislike something? I was hoping it would be entertaining, I watch it just so I could type three lines about how shit it was. I'm still hopeful for it down the line . . quite often there is a lot of scrambled set up to get through in the first episode (though I do think that if there is, it's a sign of bad writing . . however in SW case it's excusable as there would have likely been some quite intense studio interference).

You can post what ever you want, but in turn if I think you're being negative about it (and so much other stuff) I'd usually ignore it, but it seems constant, so wanted to say something about it.

TBH I'm gutted you dont like the same things that I do, I'd much rather you enjoy them.

If it helps I just watched mz marvel with my daughter, and though it was clearly aimed at her age group it was decent enough so far. creative and fun.
Not 100% sure I would watch it on my own, but I can appreciate it.
First ep of Obi Wan was a bit of a train wreck, trying to cram/link everything they could from the first first film instead of trying something new or world building. Despite not being a huge fan, at least the Mandolorian went off and did it's own thing (almost).
The Star Wars people don't seem to learn from their mistakes (or even successes).

Anyway. . I have only seen one episode, maybe it redeems itself.

looks forward to the andor is shite posting
Not wishing to break character, can safely say that it does not look the slightest bit interesting to me. I had to look up what Andor was (I thought it was a planet). Rouge One was the best of the new new films, but it was still pretty terrible and a bit pointless storywise (and even made a couple of lines in Star Wars that ref it retrospectively humorous/embarrassing) . , the biggest problem for me is that I couldn't tell you a thing about the heroes (apart from blind samurai guy, the ex empire robot and Forest Whitaker??). . . they were just so flat (unwritten). I can't even visualise them. . . . anyway it turns out the bloke was Andor.

Of course I will watch it to see what all the fuss is about.

you do remember watching the first star wars movies and the fact they had filmed it as a one shot so
none of the characters had been written out.. even by the time the sequels came along

if you expect a deeply thought out world don't come to star wars, jesus for 30 years of star wars their was one women and one black dude in the entire galaxy

They managed it in the books. It's not impossible to write something not shit in an infinite Star Wars universe.

its a prequel to the mainline series it breaks canon in the most basic ways due to this reason

but in the later episodes vader turns up og anakin

so for these moments its worth sticking with as its live action

My point is it that perhaps shouldn't be a TV series, or maybe it should have been a different kind of TV series. Not every moment in everybody's life has to be a swashbuckling adventure featuring the same five people.
I used to like it when they said 'clone wars' and there was this huge imagined back story . . . but now I know it was just some silly 30 minute CGI robot / lizard fight.
I couldn't give a shit about vader turning up. I'd rather they did a TV show about a young officer in the empire who perhaps questioned their moral position. Vader could be in that. I could be like better call saul in space.

you know the show is called obi wan.

a major figure in both the prequels and main line movies, I think you are asking to much of a limited series they cannot rewrite cannon and the show screams fan sercive

not a silly as the book of boba fett but it's along the same line of intention

if you want some thing new setting the star war universe watch andor, but I suspect you also think it shite as their not clear good guys and villains as you mentioned about rouge one

I think you misunderstand me.
Completely.
You also seem to think I have never properly come across this 'star wars' thing and need to school me in it's lore?

If there was a story about obi wan after the the events of the prequels, I would have liked it to be something different. Perhaps slower paced that didn't tread on the toes of cannon and ran it's own path. A bit more mandolorian.

Rouge One was pointless. It ruined the imagined battle and adventure that was one single line in the first film. The line wasn't 'throwaway' because it gave some gravitas to the maguffin of the movie, but as a stand alone film??? Pointless. Beyond that it's not good anyway because the lead actors are so flat and uninteresting that I can't even bloody remember them. . . why I would want to watch the back story of a backstory of characters that are so boring they just wash over you?

Why does there have to be all this "What did you expect?" . . . Well yeah, I expected them to make a tits up of it, I just hoped they wouldn't.

complains about star wars always being to much about jedi and their random bullshite

get a possible new take on it and won't entertain the notion.

have your tried star trek ?

or do you just like complaining about star wars

It seems you continue to misunderstand my point. I also never mentioned anything about the above

I have long given up on star wars, but that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to dip into a TV show when I get some free disney plus action. Why am I not allowed to comment on what I see?

have your tried star trek
Yes, and I have commented on that almost certainly the same amount as I have on star wars. It has never been argued with quite so much. If I make one Star Wars comment it becomes two flipping pages of this kind of back and forth.

I complain about a lot of things on the telly. I also complement a lot of things. The complaints seem to get highlighted more, and even more so with star wars.
The defenders claiming 'it's for the kids', 'you are not seven anymore', 'what do you expect them to do?', etc etc. . . it's the same every single time.

I expect experienced writers and program makers to write a solid tight script in the spirit of the groundbreaking original. . . except I don't, I expect studio executives to fuck it all up every time and am pleasantly surprised on the odd occasion that they don't. . . . so far that is currently perhaps three episodes of the mandolorian, the opening of the force awakens and 15 minutes of Rouge One.

Rouge One? Chuffing ROUGE? :snarl:

It's Rogue.

FFS.

I don't agree with AS on all things sci-fi/star wars by any means, but Obi Wan was just half-arsed. Nothing to it at all really. So much that could have been done with that element of the IP and they just shat out another generic adventure.

They could have done something different and interesting, like a murder mystery or a cheeky 'sting'. Something that might solidify obiwans mysterious legendary loaner in the mountains status, but not wanked about with cannon. Make each series something a bit different. Mando was sort of knight rider / littlest hobo/ equalizer. Make obiwan a reluctant one off Colombo.

Also, Picard should have been space murder she wrote on a vineyard, not fucking space time robot cyborgs .
