Noncey or Sexually Inappropriate Music

being as the dead kennedys drummer, dh peligro, is black, i think there's a slight chance they had a conversation about the lyrics before recording the song.

Given Eric Boucher couldn't even be bothered to pay his band are you really sure he consulted them all about every line of his lyrics?

Yeah, relistening to that, I'd be surprised if she played that now.

Lou Reed quietly dropped the 'coloured' from 'and the coloured girls sing' in Walk on the Wild Side when he performed it live in later years. That jars when I listen to it now.
Always jarred to me. Dropped a mate 30 years back for mouthing that line in a way i did not like.

It's just your usual litotes so that you can insist you didn't say what you actually said when you're called on it. I fully understood your post thank you.
I don't know whether they discussed it or not. Which is why I phrased my post the way I did. How could I be sure of it, neither you nor I was present. But being as in more recent performances the n word's been changed for eg black some conversation with someone's taken place.

That's not surprising entirely dishonest. You used a facetious understatement to imply certainty and are now claiming your words should be taken literally. If you really thought the chance was slight why fucking mention it?

what's utterly dishonest is linking the royalties dispute to other behaviour within the band on the basis of er no evidence, especially when the result of the lawsuit was to find inter alia that songwriting credits should be widened to the whole band, making me a bit more confident that a discussion occurred. How confident you ask? Reasonably.

E2A you're not really interested in this at all, it's an attempt to make yourself feel better when shit's not going so well

Brown Sugar's days maybe numbered, in airplay.
Read an article recently where a female journalist was listening to it on repeat to see how problematic it is. She thought it was quite problematic but also said afterwards she came away thinking what a cracker of a song it was too.

Brown Sugar
The Rolling Stones
Gold Coast slave ship bound for cotton fields
Sold in the market down in New Orleans
Scarred old slaver knows he's doin' all right
Hear him whip the women just around midnight
Brown Sugar, how come you taste so good
Brown Sugar, just like a young girl should
Drums beatin' cold, English blood runs hot
Lady of the house wonderin' when it's gonna stop
House boy knows that he's doin' all right
You should have heard him just around midnight
Brown Sugar, how come you taste so good
Brown Sugar, just like a young girl should
Brown Sugar, how come you dance so good
Brown Sugar, just like a black girl should
I bet your mama was a tentshow Queen,
And all her boyfriends were sweet sixteen
I'm no school boy but I know what I like
You should have heard me just around midnight
Brown Sugar, how come you taste so good
Brown Sugar, just like a black girl should
I said, yeah, yeah, yeah, wooo
How come you, how come you dance so good
Yeah, yeah, yeah, wooo
Just like a, just like a black girl should
Yeah, yeah, yeah, wooo

Surprised Roy Harper hasn't featured yet. Lyrics from 'Forbidden Fruit' -

Baby, won't you play with me ?
Games that no one else can see ?
Leanin' over out my window
Flashing me a mini flower show

Steal away from mummy, oh there's my little girl
On the pillow of my tummy give my hair a curl
Run your fingers under and over, make us a little pool
And don't forget about tomorrow in the same place after school

Baby, make me calm your fears
Let me hold your thirteen years
In between the silky, love me
Race my heart and let my tongue rest

Oh baby I can feel you, see my thunderburst
Melting us together in the plains of magic thirst
We can be forever and ever, watching the water fall
Floating in the lake of all peace after love and after all

We can be forever and ever, watching the water fall
Floating in the lake of all peace after love and after all

Makes you wonder how he got through court unscathed :hmm:

Led zepp

I was a young man, I couldn't resist
Started thinkin' it over, just what I had missed
Got me a girl and I kissed her and then and then
Whoops, oh lord, well I did it again
Now I've got ten children of my own
I got another child on the way that makes eleven
But I'm in constant heaven
I know it's all right in my mind
'Cause I got a little schoolgirl and she's all mine
I can't get through to her 'cause it doesn't permit
But I'm gonna give her everything I've got to give
Oh, Rosie, oh, girl, oh, Rosie, oh, yeah
Steal away now, steal away
Steal away, baby, steal away
Little Robert Anthony wants to come and play

Fuck, I've heard that song countless times and never twigged exactly what it was about. I assumed it was just a rather bad taste, ham-fisted homage to a black girl he'd fucked. Laid out like that, it's really really really horrible.

"My love for you girl is way out of line...you're much too young girl"

I'll beg to differ on any doubt lbj.
Fair enough. The worst of it is the way it's somehow her fault. He's at least acknowledging some kind of wrongness - I find the Led Zep one and some of the others worse, I think. They are just simple celebrations of noncery, really.

The song alone is harmless but when coupled with the video, it's... disturbing.

The idea was that the little girl is the illegitimate child of his wife (who tries to win back his affection) and the black slave in the background. He addresses the child as the unwanted result of the affair, not as a seductress. It’s a crap video and everybody was probably high on coke when they shot it but the intention wasn’t to suggest noncery. It would have been more clear had he addressed the performer playing his wife but the kid was cute, so they made her the focus.

Where did you garner that context from? Was or is it available to anyone who happens upon the song on YouTube?

There was a Leslie Thomas novel where the 'hero' spied on under-age girls through a peep-hole and had sex with them while their sports teacher. Published 1970. It's difficult to look back and find any justification for this or for some of the songs in this thread. The French say 'autres temps, autres moeurs' but it's just not good enough. Really, with permissiveness (good thing) a certain amount of skeeziness slipped though the net (bad thing) and got away with it.
