Non-aligned far lefties, align yourselves here

Brainaddict

slight system overdrive
Not sure if I can get a sensible response to a question like this, but who here would describe themselves as far left (ish), but not belonging to (in reality or in spirit) any political group or nameable creed?

I would, hence the question, and I from time to time think there must be quite a few others on here - perhaps those who don't post so much in the politics forums.

I leave the definition of 'far left (ish)' to your own discretion :)

i don't think i know what i am. the anarchists tell me i don't know enough to be an anarchist, the far lefties think i'm a middle class liberal, the liberals i know think i'm a naive lefty idealist with dangerously anarchist leanings. i'm definitely to the left of any political party with seats in the uk.

in the political compass thigns i always end up in the bottom left though, even if no-one wants me in their group and i don't like aligning myself with other people's ideas.

I'm not actively aligned with any organisation

I would describe myself as being on the far left and as a marxist.

I tend to agree with a lot of the political positions taken up by the SP (although they are a bit formalistic and abstract on the national question IMO). I'm not to keen on its dogmatic air of superiority and automatic dismissal of other left forces though. And it can also adopt a gratingly workerist stance.

I'm interested in left communist/anarchist/libertarian etc traditions which take class struggle seriously, not as a daddy-funded gap year in which to smoke dope and not wash.

Ha ha. Although now I'm glad cos I heard you're not actually a cretin you're just writing a book about dickheads on the internet? You not got enough material yet?

No I'm not. Who told you that?

To me 'Marxist' would suggest a nameable creed, no? But I suspect the list of far left non-marxists would be rather short, so I'd better not discount you...

If you want more of a definition of far left (ish) then I'd say something like: *significantly* to the left of any major political party (including their backbenchers :p).

There are plenty of far-left non-Marxists. But actually, I'd argue that that Left/Right dichotomy rests upon an obsolete metaphor. There is no reason to allow the seating arrangements of the French Constituent Assembly in 1790 to continue to dominate our conception of the political sepctrum. Is there?

Something similar for me.

I believe in many anarchist principles but also some free market ones. I don't have any faith in revolutions or beauracracies. And think that the last people that should ever be given any power are those who argue endlessly about obscure theoretical points from largely unread texts.

that's pretty much me. what a thoroughly unlamented ex-poster would have sneeringly called an angry liberal.

for what it's worth, i believe that anarchist groups do more on a daily basis to add to the sum of human happiness in their communities.

I'm a DEMOCRATIC SOCIALIST. Sadly the closest thing we have to a Democratic Socialist Party seems to be the Labour Party.
In yesteryears i got involved in various far left groups campaigns including Red Action and the Socialist Labour party very briefly. Dogmatism is the enemy of Socialism.

I agree with you. Whatever you say about Labour it is the only organisation that has a tenth of a fraction of a chance of moving thing in a socialist direction. If I was a socialist I would be infiltrating the party and getting better people elected who can eventually force out Tony Blair.

Sitting on your backside whining is not going to do anything. All it means is you're giving up and your enemies get free reign.

I heard you're writing research into how outsiders (i.e. morons who talk shite) get treated on internet forums. I believe it too. I do not believe a real person would come up with the stuff you do.

In that case, you are a cretin.

Mind you the ridicule you got from a Workers Power bloke over your articulation of anarchism doesn't give me much hope for you sunshine. :p
