Nick Clegg to make drug law election pledge‏

There were pro cannabis comments or policies from the Lib dems last time, I don't give a flying f*** because one, the liklihood of them getting a majority is a little bit slim, two I don't trust them to keep their promises and three, the idea that they're making some kind of brave moral stand for what they think is right is funnier than Chris Rock when he's particularly inspired.

I don't think many people would argue de-criminalising drug use was a bad thing, I suspect it's cheaper to treat someone who wants it than take them through the courts.

But I do think there is massive inconsistency in drug policy, legal or otherwise.

I've never understood why government wants to put cigarettes in packaging with rotten lungs on them but alcohol gets a free pass despite. Yes booze kills 7%-10% of what cigarettes do, but I've never seen someone get in a fight because they've smoked too many Silk Cut; Alcohol Concern claim about half of victims of violent crime believed their attackers were under the influence of alcohol.

It's not just the backy which is wacky.

I watched that drugs live thing the other day and they asked an anti decriminilisation police chief his thoughts about decriminalising..... He just kept bleeding on about youths on estates....

What strikes me about anti decriminalisation types is when you talk to them, they either miss the point entirely, or say it should remain criminalised because decriminalisation doesn't benefit them.

Nope. I don't take drugs often these days. Drug law reform is necessary for all sorts of reasons - kids getting criminal records for having a bit of weed (and then finding it hard to gain employment), the police using drugs as an excuse to disproportionately stop and search black youths, pma/pmma killing more and more people in dodgy pills...

Well said.

You don't see a) any disconnect between the aims and voting lib-dem b) that both the lib-dems and this clown are using the issue for rhetorical cover - look i really really really care/they don't.

My comment had nothing to do with voting lib Dem did it? I was was referring to what he said about the negative impact of drug prohibition. You think ecstasy pills manufactured with pma is a good thing then?

The quote you were bigging up was from someone who said they'd consider voting lib-dem because this pledge might deal with those issues. Read your own thread ffs.

He'd said that in a previous post. Not the one I 'bigged up' which was exclusively about the negative impact of drug prohibition. If I'd said "well said" to his comment about voting lib dem you'd have a point.

He said it before i replied. Yes, of course he did. And the one you bigged up was his reply to being questioned on that voting lib-dem stuff. ffs

"nick clegg makes pledge" LOL
Why are people so delusional about party commitments in a coalition government?

The libdems were never going to get everything they wanted, it's politics. If the students were so pissed off with Clegg why didn't they occupy Trafalgar sq....now that would've been interesting.

Yup. And it's not like the Lib Dems had the chance to implement policies alone. I'd love to know which parties the Lib Dem haters on here will be voting for...

While they were never, as you say, going to "get everything they wanted", they had choices to make, and chose to resile from a pledge that bought them extra seats, in favour of personal aggrandisement for the upper hierarchy of the party, and some promises about electoral reform. In a business legendary for horse-trading, they swapped a decent hunter for an emphysemic pit pony.

Thanks for that, gives it some perspective, who knows whether it was something they could make a deal on?

The paper version maybe but every time there's a drugs story in the Mail online the comments are majority pro legalisation.

I wouldn't vote for the cunt even if I got a key of top grade skunk for doing it.

How about two key? Just for research purposes how many kgs of top grade skunk = a vote for clegg:D

A few yellow slime popping up again. I thought with moon fucking off we'd got rid of them but like cockroaches they just won't die.

Yellow slime? Potential Lib Dem voters, if they get the policies right? You mean the Lib Dems might not deliver on all promises - just like every other political party, ever. Go on, give us a laugh and tell us who your vote might potentially go to. ;)
