New £50 note will feature a British scientist...

The only person I knew who ever had £50.00 notes was a show off, he liked to buy rounds in the local pub and pay with a 50 .. the only person I have come across like that.

I also think it may be too early for Sir Peter Mansfield, inventor of the MRI scanner, he only died last year.

Closer to Remembrance Sunday puffed up on patriotism some cunt will bring up why it should be Thatcher.

Ada Lovelace gets my vote so far cos I've never heard of her. Which makes a change from all the boring bland and predictable options.

This is not a good philosophy to live by. What's boring and bland about Maxwell, Hodgkin or Sanger, do you reckon in your reckonings?

I meant more previously. At least now they're asking people, and some interesting choices have come up. Clearly Guv of bank of England agrees with me since he's asking for people to "think beyond the obvious".

Ie not Diana, Thatcher, Enid Blyton, Shakespeare (again) John Stewart Mill etc. I mean Jesus Christ zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

is rutherford not british enough?
More British than Edison though There are some good choices being mooted on this forum, the thing about dead scientists it doesn't take long after their deaths for the only thing people to remember about them is the sciemce
they did. They become uncontroversial much quicker than politicians

The more I think about this, the more likely I think it will be Hawking. It *could* be Turing, and they could go for a female, but I just think it's by far the easiest and most popular option.
