I don't know if any of you know of that "Anna Delvey" story. I was pretty drop jawed when I was following it when it came out following it on YouTube but despite the series coming off as pretty tacky I have two episodes left and have to say I am thoroughly engrossed.

I can't decide if I admire the woman for having the balls to go out there and do what she did or hate her for refusing to see how she hurt and upset so many people. I can't but help laugh at how nonchalant and deluded she was about her actions. A true marmite character for sure.

I congratulate the woman playing the lead role of Anna. She has her mannerisms down to a virtual tee. Great watch IMO.
Havent seen yet but the actor Julia Garner absolutely owns Ozark.

Trailer is shit. As to the style, this is as good as Star Wars
But that was shit.
or Guillermo del Toro animation.
What was that? Not Pinocchio I assume.
You just need to get them to space, which happens before the first episode is over. From then on it’s brilliant.
We will see. Maybe it will go into the one episode 'trial' box. We only have two Aggrestsuko episodes left and Physical 100 is over, so we need some new blood.

Watched The Strays after seeing Kermode's review.

A black woman leaves her old life behind and finds a new one. It's probably comparable to Jordan Peele's films because it deals with the big issues, racism, family structures, mental health etc and there's class politics in there aswell. The threat is more psychological than horror. Lots to think about. Stars Ashley Madekwe who was most recently the mum in County Lines.

Of Fathers and Sons

Depressing documentary about the father and young sons of a Syrian family. Worth a watch. What a terrible way for children to grow up

I think I have only just finished the prison bit without Arisu. I didn't think it was all that.
My wife sticks it on when my daughter is out, so I may eventually finish it.
To be fair the rest of the series from then on is a bit hit and miss, but at least you didn’t quit S2 on the container park story, which undoubtedly shit. Whereas you’re unlikely to really like the remaining episodes, the next instalment, set on an abandoned kind-of petrol refinery plant, presents another intriguing psychological challenge. That takes 1.5 episodes if memory serves. I don’t think you will hate it FWIW.

I don't like how this series games are not played out in a way that anybody would actually play them. Both the container and prison episodes had no realism. People acted the way they did to fit the story, leaving plenty of time for standing around and doing some long brooding manga monologue.

Anyone watching S4 of You? I felt like I’d had my fill of that series by the end of S3, so never bothered to check out the first half of S4 when it came out. But after learning today that the current season is a kind of reset, and based in London, and in a whodunnit format, we gave a try to the first five episodes and I’m glad we did.

Not super amazing but easily a 7/10 as a crime entertainment series, with more wittier dialogue than previous seasons, and a relentless critique of the London upper class scene. Overall a slightly different tone to all previous seasons, faster paced, and more enjoyable imo.

Anyways, the remaining five episodes drop this Thursday (at least I hope it’s all of them), and to anyone who like me had decided to abandon the series after S3 I would recommend giving the current one a try.

I'll say it again because I haven't heard many people mention it and I thought it was brilliant. KLEO is well worth a watch
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, a former spy killer is set free and embarks on a revenge spree against the people who conspired to betray her.

Also found African Queens:Njinga to be a fascinating and infuriating four episodes looking back at the rise and reign of Queen Njinga of Angola amid numerous family betrayal and political rivalries, it shines a spotlight on the actions of slavers in Africa and 300 years of the history of her particular bloodline.

I hope they continue this programme looking at other people and places...I found it interesting and incredibly sad at the barbarity and past actions of some humans on this planet...

I’m rewatching American Vandal. It’s very good if you haven’t seen it. It has a veneer of puerile humour that rips to pieces the Netflix true crime series format and shines a light on the nuances of social media use.

The Glory. A South Korean revenge thriller series about a woman who was brutally bullied as a kid by some of her schoolmates, and embarks in an elaborate, meticulously planned revenge plan against those who wronged her.

I hadn’t heard of it until today and only found out because S2 has just dropped and is trending. Brilliant so far- great writing, storytelling, and production values, and whereas nothing mind blowing has happened as of ep 3, clearly building up to a Machiavellian revenge job. 100% Rotten Tomatoes score and a 97% audience approval rating. Not sure why this had escaped me for a whole season.

Sounds interesting.I'll put it on the list. My family are all over the Korean stuff at the moment.
Everyone seems to be enjoying Mr Queen which is the new Crash Landing on You.

We are also watching 'We Married for a Job' a Japanese comedy drama that did pretty well in it's home country. Personally I hate this kind of shit. It's a very typically Japanese show. I do like the dance a the end, which is apparently (again) quite popular in Japan. . . .but my wife and daughter seem to like it so I guess I will be watching to it's conclusion.
It's so stupid.

Sounds a bit like the Vengeance Trilogy from twenty years back. Adding this to ever growing list.

This Korean thing "Mr Queen" is totally mental. It started as an out an out comedy with sped up benny hill chases, cartoon sound effects and Frankie Howard style winks to camera. It's now a serious period drama/espionage show.

It's almost inconsequential that the lead is a top chef who has magically jumped back in time into a young queens body. The only real benefit of this set up is that we are finding out about the situation along with the protagonist. Being a master chef has only come up once as a comedy cooking contest aside.

I applaud it.

EDIT - Watching as I type. . . it is now a actually embracing the cooking of the future element.

White Boy Rick. A film based on a true story about how shitty Detroit was in the 80s. Matthew McConaughey and others give solid performances but the film just bubbles along and lacks something.

There's a strong message at the end though
ACAB

Where are you?

These korean shows seem to follow a rough formula. Combine comedy, drama, mystery, romance, fish out of water, but don't 'mix it up' just jump from one genre to the other like you are watching a different story/show with the same set and actors. One minute you are watching a Two Ronnies sketch, but it switches to Mission Impossible, but it's still Corbet, Barker and their fork handles. There also certainly has to be a 'sassy woman' role for the lead and a dumb, dippy, socially awkward man who suddenly becomes selfless, honorable and cool. Then chuck in a sci fi element of some sort (or something utterly impossible) to kick it all off and make 200 two hour episodes . . . bam, you're done. Korean drama.

We live in Japan and the Netflix here is a bit different from the UK version. Have you seen Kingdom yet?

Ah yes I have seen Neflix in Japan. LOADS of different stuff. . . but I thought the Japanese were all over the korean dramas.
Well maybe that's why. They probably have a lot more deals with other Japanese networks.

When I was in Japan for christmas and the new year I just watched the films like The Batman (rubbish) and Suicide Squad (I quite liked it) that are not available in the UK . . . oh and caning a load of 70/80s anime (in the background) that I never previously got the chance to watch. Galaxy express 999, stuff like that.

What is kingdom?

It's a Korean costume drama series with zombies and it's probably the best thing ever. Only the two seasons plus a film spinoff (not seen it yet).

Suicide Squad is terrible, the sequel is much better, great fun. The Batman is one of the best of the lot, bringing the character back to his Detective roots in the comics.

We binned the Luther film after 15 minutes. And that was too long.
I was in a traffic jam listening to Serkis being interviewed about it last week. As he was trying to sell it, I was thinking this sounds like utter shite. It sounded clunky and cliched and that was from a 10 min puff piece on the BBC. Thanks for taking the hit.

I see. I might have avoided it because I am bored shitless of zombies.
When I said Suicide Squad I meant 'The Suicide Squad' (which I thought was a reboot, didn't know it was a sequel) . . but yes, the first one is trash

The Batman one was probably OK but I could barely see anything that was happening. So dark. I appreciate the detective roots element. I think I have to accept that Batman is not for me (should have realised this a loooong time ago). I have seen most of the films and I don't like any versions of it or any of the comics I have read.

Ah well, long term Batman fan here and have stayed throughout the highs and lows. Will be watching the Flash film, only for Keaton's Batman.

Don't let zombies put you off Kingdom. It's great fun. Pretty sure others here have recommended it before.
