Nadine Dorries: Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport

Did Nadine know that Johnson was going during the day?
On the Talk TV interview you mentioned she said she had spoken to him several times over the last 24 hours but wouldn't be drawn as to what was said. He undoubtedly told her what he was going to do. Whether or not there was any agreement between them about it, her announcement is obviously co-ordinated with his intentions, and done to cause maximum damage to "the snake" Sunak.

Be interesting to see how this plays out. There are only two " nominal offices of profit under the Crown", so unless more than one person can be appointed to them, there would be a queue when there are more than two M.P.'s resigning. And it apparently requires formal paperwork to be completed.

Interviewed by Piers Morgan last night she said this:

However that interview was yesterday and a day is a long time in politics. Earlier Morgan had confronted her with a clip of her saying she didn't want to cause a byelection just hours before she did just that. Or not. We shall see of course.

The Morgan interview is quite entertaining particularly this bit. She explains how not getting a peerage is a slap in the face for everyone from a non-privileged background and blames posh boys for blocking her. Morgan points out that many would regard Boris as being from a privileged background - her response is classic.

Its being appointed to it that is the thing, so once you are appointed you can quit and then someone else gets appointed.

‘I want only want to be a Baroness to make everyone in Liverpool happy’.

Boris Johnson without whatever it is that Boris Johnson apparently has. I hope her future career highpoint is accepting an offer of -£5K as the last person on the Celebrity Chase when the rest of the team have only made £5K so far and still getting eliminated.

BBC Newsnight reporting that she's delaying her resignation for cunning reasons of tact.

Nadine Dorries keeps party waiting on by-election

...in the meantime, as she remains a member of Parliament, she can turn up in the House of Commons chamber to make her views known. Anything she says would be covered by parliamentary privilege, allowing her to be outspoken on any issue, without fear of legal consequences.
The report on whether Mr Johnson misled MPs over lockdown parties is expected to be published later this week and debated by MPs soon after. If she so chooses, Ms Dorries could take part in that debate. It is not clear what her intentions are, though.
If her formal resignation is tendered soon, it could still be possible for all three by-elections to be held on 20 July. But while she keeps her party waiting, the capacity for mischief exists...
