Mumford and Son... first band for a while to make me go 'WOW!'.

I'd forgotten what they actually sound like. Just checked, and yeah as I recalled. Sorta annoying watered down clean country pish. There seems to be a lot of this ernist jangley chord strumming acoustic stuff around at open mic nights and so on. It makes me want to smash up my own acoustic guitar.

Good that they play instruments, write their own songs and have an unique twist on their stuff, so good in my eyes, personally not my cup of tea but glad they have made it big.

Who has made you go WOW! recently? :D

NOT Mumford and Sons. Usual derivative guardista style bollocks. Insipid, whimsy whimsy, meaningless inoffensive blandfest, the type of which makes Sigur Ros sound like fucking Napalm Death.

If they could be any more inoffensive, they'd make Simply Red look bleeding edge.

Last band is make me go "WOW"? Seriously, its been a while. I'm at that age whereby whenever I hear anything, i can hear who else they are ripping off wholesale, even the songs I write myself.

Listened to Mumford and Son from 'T' last night, thought um... couldn't hear the lyrics properly as he was mumbling into the microphone.

Downloaded this morning.

WOW! They are bloody good.

I first heard them about a year ago - the following song is in the soundtrack to Hell On Wheels:

I was impressed; they've a number of good tunes.

p.s. Corax is right about Die Antwoord: I'd recommend Fatty Boom Boom to the uninitiated...

That video that JC3 posted is slow, dull and breathless. But then it isn't aimed at people of my age.

stereotypes!

oh yeah!

i think you'll find this lot would be more popular with torygraph readers. they're from west london after all.

Is that how you judge music?

Normally I just sit behind a desk on live TV listening to some harridan yodelling Whitney Houston songs out of tune, before faceplaming myself on live TV and being relentlessly horrible to people. Isn't that how we judge music nowadays?
heaven forbid if a band actually turned up for BGT / X factor auditions with a full set of gear and played some songs they wrote...

Tunng.
I bought the "Good Arrows" album on the strength of hearing a single track on the radio, and I'm well impressed.

I like them too...they have a new album out and touring in the autumn. I have seen them once playing with Tinarawen (spelling could be wrong)..it was a wonderful gig.

Mmmm, perfect encapsulation, with "inoffensive".

It's what you get if you mix all the decent alt-country, folk and neo-folk of the last 15 years together, squeeze out anything with the vaguest spark of originality, then retail it as "the latest thing" to those who know no better.
