Meta ‘removes LGBTQ+ Pride themes from Facebook Messenger app’

Serene

Slightly disgruntled
Tech giants Meta have reportedly removed Pride and LGBTQ+ themes from Facebook Messenger just days after changes to hate speech rules which will allow users to call queer people “mentally ill”.
The “trans” and “non-binary themes” had colour schemes that matched the respective gender identity’s pride flags. Other themes on Facebook Messenger include ones for Minecraft and Squid Game.
The change, initially flagged by 404 Media, follows billionaire owner Mark Zuckerberg’s decision to remove fact-checkers from Instagram, Threads and Facebook, and replace them with community notes similar to that seen on X/Twitter.
The company also came under fire after their community standards policy was changed to allow LGBTQ+ people to be described as “mentally ill”.

Language is a bit flowery but getting rid of DEI, worker protections et al isn't going to help workers.
Zuckerberg raved about how he thinks the "corporate world" has been "culturally neutered" and complained about being "surrounded by girls and women." He praised "masculine energy" and said a culture that "celebrates the aggression a bit more has its own merits that are really positive." He claimed he's not trying to exclude women, but then immediately pivoted to romanticizing his "masculine" martial arts training space, which is presumably segregated by gender.

zuck does know that the people who use Facebook now tend to be people.older mothers or grannies

so not sure how much trh bro culture is going to take hold :hmm: with it user based

he have more luck going full nazi like musk

The current Mr Berske and I use the LGBT setting on Messenger, I wonder when the UK/Europe will lose such a significant privilege as checks notes having questions about what's for tea come up in different colours.
