Meredith Kercher Murder Case: Verdict expected soon

There is no DNA evidence. There's precious little evidence of any kind.

As I said on the other thread, I think she was tried for being a sexually active young woman. And now she's been convicted of it.

And what about her boyfriend? And the other bloke?

I think it was the drug dealer wot done it. Indeed he's already been convicted of it. Knox was tried by the media, on the basis of the fact that she enjoyed sex--we discussed this at length on the other thread.

The ironic thing is that she wasn't even particularly promiscuous. Seven lovers by the age of twenty is actually on the low side for a middle-class American West coaster.

why is there more than one thread?

I don't know either way really but i'm mystified how they know sollecito held kercher down while knox stabbed her when afaik there is no forensic evidence to support that theory nor have either of them confessed that

Because a Mod moved my original thread from General to World Politics. Seems a shame, because there was an interesting debate about the media coverage on that one. Maybe they could be merged?

That's right. Nor is there any motive, except for the ridiculous "sex game" theory. This prosecution was based on misogyny, pure and simple.

No worries. It is out of place in World Politics--I didn't put it there, a Mod moved it. But we might as well do it here now.

No, it's actually quite important.
Do we name trials/murder cases after the victim or the accused?
Wonder what they call it in Italy or the Ivory Coast.

I've just watched a bit about this on the news and I was reminded of that case where the woman's boyfriend got kidnapped and murdered in the australian outback. Her personality was picked apart by the press - she was to calm, she was behaving odlly etc etc etc... It's almost exactly the same.

Joanne Lees. Yeah I agree to an extent only I think Knox has been extra villified for having had sex.

I don't know a lot about the case, just that it would really suck to go off to school in Italy, only to get murdered by your warped, perverted roommates and friends.

Assuming that the facts are something similar to that...

It would probably be a huge shock when you realized all that niceness was just a ploy to get you alone, and whack you.

Existential angst, then death. :(

You possibly have a more romantic image of Italy than I. :)

The one I have is of tattooed anarchist junkie squatters. :D

I don't know anything about the case other than what I just saw on the news. When was she supposed to have sex?

According to the media, she was a drug-crazed nymphomaniac egomaniac into unspeakably perverse "sex games," dressing up as a Nazi and propagandizing in favor of rape.

Which basically boiled down to having slept with seven men, smoked a few joints, and owning a vibrator.

either way, i'm looking her up if she gets a "not guilty"...

shes been sent down for 26 years so you're in for a long wait

Time off for good behaviour could easily half that - just enough time for her wanton slutty desires to mature into something truly exquisite...

Hang on , shit, you mean she did actually kill that girl? fuck - thats not funny wot I just wrote. wasnt thinking...

Yeah for fuck sakes man. These are young people whose lives are ruined. Nothing to laugh about here.
For what it's worth I think this is a fucking travesty of justice. This girl was found guilty by the press a year ago.

She was in the UK. But not in the US. And according to a friend of mine in Italy, the press are not remotely salacious.

This was in Italy so what bearing the british press had on the verdict I don't know.

I also think there are two separate issues here - the way Amanda Knox has been portrayed in the media and the verdict. I am not convinced that one had that much bearing on the other.

Everyone involved suffers under this type of coverage. Both the accused and the bereft are owed a fair trial. Without it no justice or closure.

Perhaps this board could also express it's doubts towards the spite meted out to the McCanns not even tried in any court, or having any evidence against them. It's not just the media that can deal in offensive speculation.

Some bloke on BBC Breakfast has just been banging on about her being promiscuous. WTF does that have to do with anything?? Fuck me, half of urban would be banged up for murder if it was somehow linked to promiscuity.

So one guy gets 30 years....Amanda gets 26 and her BF gets 25.

I was listening to something on the radio last night that suggested Amanda and BF's 'guilt' also had a lot to do with the fact they tried to frame another man, just after this had happened. I seem to remember that the 1st person wanted in connection with Meredith's death is none of the 3 who have been convicted.

Wasn't there a bar owner, an older guy who was questioned on the back of statements given by Amanada and bf?

And there's always been a double-standard in the press and media when it comes to 'promiscuity' and men vs women.

Yes, her boss who she said had been there but then it turned out he had an alibi. Although the knoxie defenders say that she was bullied into saying that.

Yes and he was exonerated. Which adds to their questionableness.
