Can he resign? The new orthodoxy is that 'private lives' shouldn't have any impact on political careers. Also admitting to any financial impropriety would be unlike this government. I think if he does go it'll be in a 'spending more time with his family' way rather than admitting that he did anything wrong. It's possible he'll be made to stay and this is just another humiliation to add to the heap.
