Many dead in coordinated Paris shootings and explosions

Of course, and the same goes for attacks on public transport. I wasn't trying to suggest that disgust at 'western decadence' was all there is to it; just that at times it is a factor. Perhaps not one for this thread, though.
What strikes me is the range of it. A Cambodian restaurant? About as random as you can get. A football match? That's just targetting everyone. And a gig? It was a US band, I believe, but they're hardly likely to be music critics.

The message I see, assuming, as I think is reasonable, that these were coordinated attacks, is that everyone is a target.

The temperature has dropped tonight and it's blustery. So, this is an ideal time to have a fire and for it to spread. Let's hope it's just an accident.

There have been fires previously. There are many opportunities for accidental fires. It's most likely just coincidence. It's not an easy part of the camp for someone to target anyway.

Blanket surveillence doing fuck all once again but more will come, more draconian laws, far right support increase. Not the time to go into all this too much I know but fuck the future just got a bit bleaker tonight.

I don't think that it is the wrong time to say all this. Mass surveillance cannot stop attacks like this, and it won't in future either. Far-right support will undoubtedly increase too, you are right.

Our ruling class have pissed someone off? Its not going to go away.

Unless you accept the risk of living in Paris, New York, Madrid or London.

I guess treating people as second class and less important does have consequences.

While this is undoubtedly a factor i don't think it is the only reason why daesh (if indeed it is them) exist let alone do this shit

No it's not. This is going to be a huge argument in the days and months to come. Any repression by the state is not justified. Much repression does nothing to keep us safe. The harsh truth is that a suicide bomber will win.

There is the claim that it has prevented attacks, which you have to take their word on of course. I can imagine it might well lead to the capture of some more amateur attackers, say inspired by online stuff types. There'll be more sophisticated ones who get past and fuck-ups too I presume.
My instinct is that any powers will be abused far more than they aid in keeping people safe, but so much of this you have to take on faith.

It's prevented some from what ive read on the topic but also plays a huge role in radicalising others and increasing soft support for that radicalisation.

I think misjudging this by some way. A football match would be seen as a valid target by these nut jobs. Worshipping false idols etc. They want to bulldoze significant Muslim sites of worship.

Combine that with coordinating an action. What I predict happened was they picked out 1 or 2 of these targets carefully and just winged it with the others.

Oh FFS don't do that. I was sayng there was no evidence of it being a revenge attack... But attack me if you must. Better still get your arse to Calais one of these days and do something more useful than fucking misinterpret/misrepresent my posts.
Sorry, that came out all wrong. No intention to attack you. Just fearful of backlash against people in the Jungle. (And yeah, I do my bit.)

Fucking hell. I've just heard this. Couldn't get online when I was out earlier I couldnt hear my phone. Radio reporting up to 150 dead. Situation still fluid. Reading between the lines.

You want to stop attacks, stop fucking over the rest of the world. Let us resist the temptation to 'call upon' the French military or the British military to sort this thing out. TO DO SOMETHING. Their actions are part of the problem. Let us not forget that, ever, as we discuss these horrible events. The military solution is not a solution. It is part of the problem.

No, I think you have that very wrong. This is an 'attack everyone' attack.

I agree with you but i dont think an end to us/uk military adventures would mean an end to daesh and their ideology either

I would hate to be Muslim, or Muslim looking, in France tonight.
well you wouldn't be popping out for bogroll wearing a headscarf would you. Someone on the radio earlier also mentioned that there is elections soon and this could give FN a boost as you alluded to. Dark fucking days.
