Manchester United 19/20: You can't win anything with kids (revisited)

Utd have to be favourites on paper for the Leipzig game. Only need a draw to go through.

Not a walk in the park though. Leipzig have won 7/7 at home scoring 18 goals with 4 conceded. Held Bayern Munich 3-3 this year too.

Could go anyway this game tbh but Manchester United's away from has been better than their home form andshould be favourites in this match to qualify.

Pretty good summation from Barney at the Guardian I thought.

Somehow United had three full-backs on the pitch, but also no full-backs at all.

This wasn’t an off day, or a case of “starting slowly” as United’s captain and manager later maintained. It was what happens when a carefully honed plan meets a hopeful one.

This was a safe pair of hands up against a maniacal eye for detail; a fully realised opening assault against a manager who came to a shootout with a banana in his hand.

Maguire’s passing can be a real asset in a back three. In a back four he can be exposed, an elite level centre back with all the easy mobility of an abandoned alien monolith.

Is there any real sign of progress here? United have the players now, or at least most of the players. They should be at the tactical cutting edge, should be pushing forward what football can be at this level. In Leipzig they were instead the passive partners.

There's one a season. A football season, not spring, summer etc.

Someone on BBC online coverage just said it's not as good as that.

tactically intriguing I thought, Pep obviously scared of the counter which in the first half was getting through. But Foden and Silva just left watching whilst Sterling runs onto a through ball and then - as habit prevails - loses it

Yeah, Ole is a tactical master......

Well, top of the table (ish). They've got there by winning ugly and with a mountain of luck, but fair play to OGS who was supposed to be a game or two from the sack. Is this the first time they've been top (ish) since Fergie, give or take league table after one or two games?

Don't see them winning it as Liverpool are just a better team (citeh too) but they could well be in the mix for 2nd. I sort of wish they were out of the league cup and even the europa league to give them a chance in the league. Ironically though, those will probably be where united have a chance of silverware this year.

So, we've got 5 games in 14 days - citeh, Watford, Burnley, Liverpool and Fulham (assuming they are covid free by then). Something's got to give, unless we start getting 2 penalties per game.
